Personally, I wouldn't mind switching out to a 3rd gen tailgate. I think Toyota got the rear end of the truck right, regardless of the fact that it looks pseudo Mitsubishi Raider. However, Pseudo Mits. Raider aside that's where the good looks end and the 2nd gen with a 3rd gen mod would be a nice appearance mod for any 2nd gen. No hate here.

So... Does this mean we can use a 2nd Gen tail gate if our tail gate on our 3rd Gen get smashed???

    Why I ask?
If I bought a brand new tacoma to be a beatter, I wouldn't give two :brianr: about how my tailgate looked like. Especially if I bought the SR.

I would honestly be looking for a second Gen owner to look and trade my brand new tailgate for cash and a beatter tailgate.

    Just my 2¢.

I'm not sure how many of you are on the Facebook Tacoma world group, but I did see a couple people swapping front ends on the 2nd gens with a 3rd gen front. not sure if they did the tailgate or not though.

Considering how ugly the third gen front is, would it not make more sense to swap the second gen front on the third gen and then throw the third gen front in a blast furnace?

when I bought my 2nd gen the sales guy told me "tacomas now have 4 wheel disc brakes". Good theing that wasn't a selling point for me.
