That's sad about the demo vehicle. You have no idea who drove it or how they drove it for the initial miles.... I would not buy a truck like that. I took delivery of my truck with 5.3 miles on it.

700 off MSRP isn't bad, but I heard Sunnyvale was doing 700 OVER Invoice a couple months ago. Maybe that was for orders only

So...anyone here buy from out of state? I'm wondering what the process/taxes and fees were to get the truck back to CA. I.E. If i bought in south carolina, would they or CA actually charge me tax since i live here? or would i get the benefit of the $300 max tax?

trying to figure out the cost/benefit of going way out of the way...esp with the drive (gas and wear and tear) across country or even from closer states.

There were a few members that bought out of state and brought it back into Cali. From what I understand it took smog, weight and registration (DMV visit). Hope they will pitch in here. I don't mind if they can't roll the taxes into the loan, cause I have enough cash for that anyways.

You pay the difference in sales tax for example...

Say Utah tax is 5%, tax in OC is 8%, so you would pay the 3% difference in tax plus registration when you go to the DMV.

If Tech Package, that's a steal. If not, it's still a good deal in my opinion. Slightly better than the deal I got at Mossy Toyota. Personally it was more important to me that I finally found a truck with pretty much everything I wanted and not too much extra junk on it

Your trucks msrp without all the 'fluff' (exhaust tip, mud guards) is 36,400 msrp.

This thread is insane - I didn't realize what everyone is going through until I spent some time reading this thread, and the one where people have them on order. I was lucky enough to know someone who works at a Toyota dealer and ended up waiting two weeks and paid $450 over invoice. However, I was at my local Toyota dealership today (Tustin Toyota) picking up parts and started to talk to a salesman - he said they've been qouting folks 2-3K OVER MSRP, AND, apparently Elmore Toyota in Westminster are trying to sell trucks for 5-6K OVER MSRP. That is absolutely disgusting.

Yeah Elmore tried pulling that with me. But honestly after about 15 minutes of discussion, the manager came down to MSRP. I may have stayed and tried to get a deal from them, but after telling me it was impossible to come down from that 5k above MSRP number, then suddenly changing his mind when I was going to walk out seemed slimy to me. Mind you, I'm still fairly young so I'm probably a bit naive in thinking that new car salesmen might be decent people.

Other people may disagree with me, but in my opinion, if you don't know anyone who works at a dealership, or can't be referred to a salesman through family or a friend, I would conduct all my neogotiations via email. Not sure how far you've gotten, but the first step is to select your vehicle - go look at the different colors, drive the different packages, play your music on the stereo, etc. Then just simply tell the salesman you're there for a test drive and walk away. Once you have a good understanding of what truck you want, go online and get a sales manager's information (general, internet, fleet, doesn't matter) from each local dealership's website. Take a look at their currenty inventory online, and see if anything interests you. Send out a few different emails with the specs you're looking for - by this time you should have a pretty good idea of what the MSRP of the vehicle is - so tell them what price you want - don't ask them what they can do for you, it'll just waste more time. At this point in the game, with the Tacoma being how popular it is, if you can get 1.5-2K off the MSRP I think you're in good shape. Mind you, every dealer is different, and there's certainly a possibility you could get a better deal, it just depends on how much time you're willing to spend.

Back on the email topic - if you look at Tustin Toyota's website, under the "contact us" or "about us" page, they don't list any individuals on their site - so I'd pass on them immediately: http://www.tustintoyota.com/contact-us-form.htm. However, if you look at Rancho Santa Margarita Toyota, they have a nice page listing all of their management staff: http://www.santamargaritatoyota.com/meet-our-staff.aspx (just trying to use examples). RSM Toyota would be a candidate.

The whole point of the post? In my opinion, don't ever walk into a dealership and start trying to neogotiate with the guy standing outside watching customers park - you'll go insane.

Here's the breakdown i received from one of the AZ dealers, not sure if it makes sense:

    $34,360.00
    $ 2,752.05 Tax 5.6% AZ. 2.45% city and county
$ 1,148.00 Cal fees (not sure this is correct) see doc below
    $ 299.00 DOC fee
    $38,559.05 total appx.

If this is correct, makes it not worth it to go out to AZ from CA. Not sure if you're supposed to get double taxed. Can anyone Chime in?

That sounds about right since they have to tack on the tax differences between AZ and CA.

I posted in your other thread. In my mind the total sales tax paid in Arizona (state+local taxtes) should be applied for California Tax Credit. If thats true. Yes, its worth it

i bought one in Oregon and they taxed it for me and sent a check to the DMV with the rest of the paperwork. all i had to do was smog and weight certificate (around 60$) and then the registration itself cost about 800$. 7.5% in Ventura County.

Seems like a pretty average to weak deal, they say it is the lowest, what do the rest of you think?

I just built that model, and added tax, came out to around 33.5k. You can do better, $500 off is weak.

What would you aim for? Did your calculation include Destination? I don't even know if that is negotiable.

Edit: Looks like it must have. I calculated an MSRP of 33753.24 and an Invoice of 31233.6 after tax (does not include dealer fees or registration fees). I got a $514 regional fee on true car. Don't know if that is negotiable either?

Edit 2: Might as well post my calculation, what I wrote above can be confusing.

    Invoice:
    SR5 Double CAB 4x2 V6: 25926
    SR5 Appearance: 757
    Exhaust Tip: 60
    Towing Package: 579
    D-rings: 35
    Carpet Floor Mats: 149
    Destination: 900
    Regional Fees (Truecar guess): 514
    Total: 28920
    After 8% tax: 31233.6

    MSRP:
    SR5 Double CAB 4x2 V6: 27985
    SR5 Appearance: 850
    Exhaust Tip: 90
    Towing Package: 650
    D-rings: 55
    Carpet Floor Mats: 209
    Destination: 900
    Regional Fees (Truecar guess): 514
    Total: 31253
    After 8% tax: 33753.24

    Registration/CA fees: 411.75
    Doc Fee: 80

    Invoice + Reg/CA fees + Doc Fee OTD: 31725.35
    MSRP + Reg/CA fees + Doc Fee OTD: 34244.99

Yes, MSRP includes delivery, processing, and handling. It does not include tax, license, and title.

I would shoot for 1.5-2K off of the MSRP, I think that's reasonable based off of the availabiity and popularity of the vehicle.
