Hey guys, I've searched on this forum and can't find the answer I'm looking for.

I am trying to replace my push start button from the OEM black one to a Red TRD button with LED indicator which I saw done on TW. I attempted to remove the center dash by first going to the plastic trim along the bottom of the driver door which popped off easily. I tried to remove the driver kick panel and work my way under the steering and towards the center dash area where the push button is but got some resistance and don't want to break any tabs.

Does anyone know how to go about this the correct way or have access to an electronic FSM (factory service manual) with drawings that can help me?

    Thank in advance!

    LOL:rofl:LOL

After the SamChieftan replied with his popcorn gif, it made me want popcorn so I went out and bought some today after work. First time buying pop corn in over 6 years and then I see this from skiergd. I don't recall posting anything about popcorn in my opening post hahaha

I want to add a RED start button too, but only got as far as making popcorn and watching this thread. Hopefully someone will have pics on how to change it.

OP I have been looking for weeks. Cheapest on Ebay is $150.00 and the most expensive is $225.00. The $50.00 brand is for vehicles that don't have a push button start.

I need to find one that is definitely cheaper. It appears there is just a clip holding it in the dash, but I want the rear plug to be exactly the same so it plugs right in and doesn't need to be spliced in.

I got mine for $100 from a HONUS64 (seller on eBay). One user (same user that got it for $50) on here told me that it's not a direct replacement after I bought my push button...He simply removed the chrome ring and red button and swapped it over but it has a small gap. I'm hoping that's not the case with mine. I just need to figure out how to remove the dash cover to get access to the dang button...

Are the pushbuttons different on different Taco models? Or are they all the same?

From what I understand the units are not compatible with the current Tacomas. Some guy here replaced his but said it was just the button face not the whole unit. He simply pulled out the start button assembly and removed the chrome bezel to get the face off. He posted a picture of it in another thread.

His response is basically this post.

Trying to see if anyone has an answer here...

How do you remove the panel to access the button? Or does anyone have the manual/instruction on how to? Thanks!

Any more info on this? Here is what I have gathered from my research(kinda limited until my truck arrives)
    -The OEM Toyota Tacoma PTS is a 10Pin;

The RED JDM PTS buttons as seen above^ is actually a 13pin & different connector. This might be due to it being Illuminated?

Toyota makes PTS without any LED; Part number MS422-0003 that looks like the exact pin(10) configuration as stock; #3 in picture

Does anyone know if the Factory Push button illuminated???
Now the question is who's brave enough to be the test subject:popcorn:
