@whopper , if you're doing an oil change every 25K miles, I don't think the fuel filter should be your biggest concern. Just my opinion...

Have you had the oil tested by a lab? I'm very curious. I'm one of those who "wastes" money doing synthetic oil changes every 5K miles.

This was the dipstick at 22700 miles I drive a lot for work change the filter every 7500 miles and yes for $22 per change the lab has never called me back with any wear issues and I'm saving close to $300 a year not changing it at 5000160207_092419_COLLAGE-1.jpg

    Austrailian, European markets as well.

Gasers alike. Across a range of platforms. Not just the Hilux. My earlier post was just a point of reference.

I never had an issue with Amsoil...I ran it once a year as well...it actually ends up about the same if you drive a lot of miles...you just do more oil changes with other stuff..

I agree. That fuel was out of a late '90's Camry. It had never been changed. Fuel coming out of the filter was clean, but was very poor flow. The car could barely run.

All sort of circumstances play parts in clogged filters. Just as driving conditions play parts in clogged air filters.

Poorly upkept stations will be the quickest source of clogged filters. Tier 1 gas stations are your safest bet for proper maintenance.

At the end of the day though, I'd rather have the ability to be able to quickly troubleshoot a fuel filter and replace it with another $7 filter just as easily, rather than be down a ~$ 500 OEM piece and have down time for that part as well. When troubleshooting proves it the souce of an issue.

Toyota probably saves about 4 dollars a car in the assembly process by not installing a serviceable fuel filter, and negates the cost of a new fuel pump to us when the fuel pump fails because the filter is plugged. Because it is always better to burn a fuel pump up than replace a 7 dollar filter. Just like removing the auto trans dip stick.

Ok, so you change the filter every 7500 miles but leave the oil in there for 25K (or I'm assuming once a year, which ever comes first).
How long have you done this in all of your Toyotas (what is there ODO?)?

I'm curious because I would like to start doing this. Right now I'm running Mobil 1 full synthetic extended performance. I want to see how it does at 10K and have the oil tested when I do the next change. If I could get to a once a year oil change I'd be happy. Much better for the environment and easier on my wallet and schedule.

Also, what lab do you use?
