I don't think that is a Metra. From when I looked the Metra came in 2 colors - black and grey, but they are both textured to match the other textured surface in our trucks. Yours is shiny smooth black. I don't see that on the Metra site.

The bag it came in says Metra 95-8235CHG 2012 and up Tacoma.

    Metra's website says: http://www.metraonline.com/part/95-8235CHG

Scosche came out with a new one this past year or so (TA2111BPB) that uses metal brackets, the outer bezel also mounts to the brackets. Seems like a far better quality and fit. I am waiting for the mailman!

I will do a nice write up for this showing the difference.

Additionally, I discovered the CRUX SWRTY-61N plug and play for these trucks. Most of the steering wheel controls, USB, back up camera, and radio antenna. Ran just the basic wires of the CRUX harness to the radio and I was able to retain the factory antennas, camera, and high level speakers (if I wanted) to work with my Pioneer AVH4100NEX. It nicely converts all the Toyota proprietary stuff in universal aftermarket connections. It's even packed with the resistors on the back up camera wires to reduce the voltage down to 6 volts that the factory Toyota camera is.

Hadn't seen the Crux before. I ended buying an adapter off a guy on this forum. Moved the back up cam from mirror to head unit.

I have the Scosche TA2053B and Pioneer AVH-X2600BT and love it. The Scosche brackets are plastic, but everything seems to be secure.

I have a 2007 Tacoma, so no factory backup camera. I'm using a $10 eBay camera that works just fine.

I only have 2 small complaints about the AVH-X2600BT.
    • When using the CD player, it does not display Artist, Album or song title, just track number. Fortunately, I can't remember the last time I actually played a CD.
    • When listening to the radio, the unit will display the Artist and song title which is great. However, it will display this information for the 1st song that plays when you change stations. That information never updates and will continue to show the same artist and song title until you change stations. Change stations the correct artist and title will immediately show up.[IMG]

Can you tap into your factory backup camera if you use a aftermarket head unit?

Yes, I did, but the factory Toyota camera doesn't run on 12V power, rather 6V, so you need to step it down. In the CRUX wiring, it is plug and play. It plugs into the factory plug and then into the composite video RCA of the aftermarket head unit.

Looks nice. Good placement of the camera. Does it get dirty a lot? The factory location does next to the handle. I often have to clean it off.

The SCOSCHE brackets I ordered are metal. Maybe they updated them?, maybe it's different for the older models?

I didn't realize that there were any differences between the 05-11 and 12-15 dashes. But the one you reference says it is for 12-15 Tacomas. I'm sure the metal brackets are an improvement. However, I've never had any real problems with the plastic brackets. The only issue I had was a little squeaking when I hit a bump, until a made a few adjustments.

I haven't had any problem with the camera getting dirty, but I don't go off road. If it gets dirty, it's easy enough to give it a quick wipe.

When Toyota did the facelift for the front in 2012, they modified the interior center console a bit, took out some of the roundness and changed the color of the lights in the dash and a number of other things. A updated steering wheel too.

I think the metal brackets are new as in the last year or so. The release date on a few of the kits are date 2014 and 2015. My current Metra on is plastic and wobbles on a bumpy road. The plastic flexes too much, plus the head unit in no way attaches to the bezel like the factory or SCOSCHE kit does.

I have a relative who owns a 2007 DCLB 4X4 and wants a back up camera. I like your camera location. We may put it in the same place.

No drilling required, since there is already a hole in the bumper. The only issue is that due to the angle of the bumper at that location, the camera was pointed down too much. I was able to get around the problem by putting a little foam tape on the back edge of the camera to angle it up a little.

Here is the one I bought for $6.58 a few months ago, but now the price is showing $15.95. This seller is in MO, so it arrives in a few days. If you don't mind waiting a few weeks, I'm sure you can find the same item from a China seller.

I never mentioned in detail about ALL the steering wheel controls. How about I be more specific? Track up, down, preset forward and back and volume work including the Talk button which activates Siri if you use Apple Car Play. No, the phone answer and hang up do not work. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you will have to extend your arm and touch the screen when answering phone calls.

*Holding Hands up* OK, you caught me! I said the microphone wired up, because it looked like it. I hadn't finished installing all of this at the time of my original writing. However, I did take the small round plug and splice it into the factory mic since it was so easy.

I have made the corrections to my previous post to avoid any such confusion.
