I have a 2007 Tacoma with 245,000 miles and decided to make it look a little nicer by trying to clean some of the black paint on it. The front grill and the nerf bars never really come clean. So, before I try a few different options I figured someone on here must have had the same issues. How do I get these looking black again?

    Thanks!

You might also try mothers back to black trim restorer.

On the nerf bars i'd try a polish or an abrasive cleaner wax.

Aerospace 303 is a great product but not really meant to restore something in that condition. If you want something that really works great, try a product called Black Wow from Show Car Detailing. It can be found on Amazon. I just had a good laugh at some of the negative reviews, dummies don't know how to use it. Read the directions and you'll LOVE it. Trust me on this, I've been using it for 8 years. Nothing restores plastic or vinyl back to it's original color like that stuff.

Meguires Ultimate compound/polish are options just because they are fairly inexpensive, user friendly, and easy to find. I think you'll need a compound for the nerf bars, at minimum.

Duragloss makes a cleaner wax (sealer) that is for marine application, but a lot of guys use it on vehicles with GREAT success (when something with a little more "punch" is needed). I haven't used it, but it's not expensive and might be worth a try. Check out the compounds on autogeek, maybe there's something else that will jump out at you. I'd try application with microfiber pads if you're using a DA. And for sure if working by hand- at least to start out (on the nerf bars). Keep in mind- I'm just brain-storming here. It's hard to know exactly what will work without seeing it in person. My gut tells me you're gonna need something with some pretty good cut and/or cleaning ability. You certainly won't be working backward with the Duragloss. Try a couple test spots and go from there. You can always pick up some compound locally, too.

Good, let me know what you think after using the Black Wow.

By the way, to do your entire nerf bars, you will only need about three dime-sized drops on your application rag. I little goes a LONG way. And let it sit for an hour or two then wash it off. That's right, wash the nerf bars after application and before driving. Otherwise, you'll have excess on there and it will attract dust. I'm sure Richard, the inventor, has a video on the internet.

    Yep... found one:

Finally got some time to give this Black Wow a try and the results were great. I also used it on the black plastic on the top of the bed and that came out great too.
