I searched quite a few threads here and can't find an answer. Are the 2015 Tacoma frames prone to rot and be replaced like other years?

It's too early to tell, ask again in like 5-7 years. If I had to guess, I'd say yes.

There was some talk about changing frame manufacturers a couple years back. I'd like to know.

    Back to Krown this spring

X2 with the Krown. If you go there when your vehicle is less than 6 months old, they guarantee no perforation from the windows down, as long as you get it done once per year.

I'm going twice a year just because I use the car wash with the underbody spray quite often.

    Cheap insurance.. Kinda

Yea, I think it was about $160. I asked if I should do it more than once a year and they said it wasn't necessary, so I wasn't going to do it.

I've been spraying my frame with fluid film, seems to be working really good so far.

I had my truck under coated at Ziebart.I plan on bringing it back once per year for a respray. You would think the frame. Problem would have been solved by now. I probably should have got the Frontier.

Is there a reason why only the Tacomas were affected by this? Why aren't other Toyota cars (4Runner, Highlander, Rav4) affected?

My parents both own Toyota vehicles (both non-Tacoma) and neither has any rust issues.

No guarantee the 16's or above won't be the same either. Kind of sad for the money we pay for these trucks.

Have a 2013. Live in a heavily salted area. Maybe washed my truck 10 times over the past 2.5yrs, bring it on the beach on the summer and, drum roll ....I have zero rust. I guess to each is own , but this forum is overkill when it comes to rust prevention.

I have owned mine for over a year up in the Salt belt and hit the car wash once a week to hit the under carriage and I also have zero rust as well

Stick a probing camera inside the frame rails and you will see rust.

Well, the Highlander and Rav4 are unibody for one. The 4Runner is a full boxed frame, but they have had some issues as well. I agree this forum is crazy about rust prevention. A co-worker had an 07 he bought new. Just regular car washes with underbody spray. No special treatments and his frame was in great shape. I crawled under mine before winter to do a little spraying here and there with a CRC treatment. Besides being totally neglected I don't see how they rust out. And,I've seen Pathfinders,Rodeos, etc with rotten frames,it's not just a Toyota problem. Co-worker stopped by the other day wanted me to look at his truck, said bumper was "loose". His loose bumper was due to the frame being rotted out where the support bracket mounted. This truck only had 88k and looked like total hell underneath.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be any rust.I live in Upstate ,N.Y. where we get snow and they salt the roads.I wash my truck every couple of weeks to keep the salt off. I just can't believe that after 5,7,even 10 years the frame would be rotted to the point of needing to be replaced.

I have a 2012 and live in Buffalo where we use a lot of salt. I was just under the truck the other day and there's no frame rust, just some surface rust on misc parts. I think youll be ok in a 2015, not sure if anything changed but if mines rust free just keep yours clean during the winter months.

I don't know what's up with 4runner, I think maybe frames that come in on a boat? Highlander and Rava are unibody -- no frame.

FWIW: I was at a local dealer up here in Canada, and they were doing a rust through frame swap on something that wasn't a Tacoma, not sure what the model was, but appeared to be some kind of SUV that would be the match to a Tundra (as 4runner is to Tacoma). So no, it isn't strictly limited to Tacoma.
