No high beams

I had a situation the other night where my high beams stopped working. The left side lamp/ballast went out as well. Will that effect the high/low function? The indicator on the dash show they are on but only the low beam on the right side is lit up. I have HID kit and never had this problem before. I am waiting for a new ballast in the mail.
