Has anyone had there first Toyota care maintenance done. They sent a letter describing each service and it says oil isn't done until 12months or 10k. I really just want them to do the first then I'll take over. Just wondering if anyone had them change the oil @ the 5k. Thanks

Lots of people have had it done sooner.
If a dealer wont do it for you, find a different dealer.
I believe Toyota Care provides for 2 free changes within the 2 year period - should not really matter when.

Please do a search next time, this has been discussed at great length. It varies by dealer.

Many threads on this topic. I had the service done at 5K, and service manager convinced me to wait to 10K. At 6300 miles the oil was dirty. I decided it is MY truck, so I took it back in and had them change the oil. I PAID for it ... $70.00. The new oil is said to last 10K miles, but that is Toyota paying for it and expecting YOU to trade in your Taco in 2 years for a NEW ONE!

I drive once/twice a year from Texas to Northern Alberta, so I got all the warranty, service, tire care etc: If it has a problem it is 1-800-Toyota come get it.

I was a certified mechanic dealership tech with 20 years experience. Most of my vehicles run beyond 200K miles. Frequent oil changes really makes a difference.

If you plan on keeping your Taco for a while. Use up your 10K oil change at 5K. Then do another at 10K. Then do your own after that.

I had mine done at 1350 miles. Didn't pay for it.....

Maybe a mistake on their part?

Toyota care allows up to 2 free oil changes until 25K miles. I have the 90,000 mile service agreement which takes over after the 25K. You can change oil whenever you like, but Toyota only pays for 2.

Toyota care says change oil at 10K and 20K miles.

Do you need to know, or care?
We don't have the Toyota Care in Canada, at least not where I am in BC, but I did get the Platinum package which includes first 6 oil changes, so we'll make sure we take advantage of the first 6 oil changes under that package. Have always changed oil twice as often on my '13 Tacoma.

Maybe I'm reading my Toyota care letter wrong, but to me it reads as if I get oil change at 5k miles.

That's the way I read that letter... 5k miles for an oil change. 10k miles seems a bit much to me honestly, but I'm not a fluid engineer by any means.

Thanks for showing us the letter. Each dealership is diffferent. The important note under the oil change may be interpretted a few ways. Best bet: Just call the dealership and give them your VIN number, they should tell you exactly what will be done.

Also Canada and USA intervals may be different. Some of the trucks may be the same, but Toyota may ONLY be paying for certain things.

If you call let us know. A few people on here have gotten their oil changed EVERY 5K and the dealership has paid for it.
