I went back to the installer today. They install bed rugs in all sorts of trucks and were not happy to hear that this is the current stated "design".

They did spend time trying to get it to fit better, however, the tailgate still bunches up and there is still a gap at the top much like the previous video shows.

I hope that bed rug does at some point correct this error in passing off an ill fitting product as a designed intent.

I have not addressed the 2015 - 2016 part numbers being the same. Having said that, I believe that designers at BedRug are as disappointed as we 2016 Tacoma owners are that the Tacoma Corporation omitted the rail on the forward bulkhead and they left the design unchanged thinking that most 2016 Tacoma owners would install a rail themselves. Logic says that they should have given us the option of buying the BedRug either with a forward rail (using the 2015 stock number) or without (using a new 2016 stock number).
To correct the BedRug's bunching up on your tailgate, I suggest that you pull the velcro along the bottom free and use the PVC pipe method mentioned in #35 above. If you will tuck the excess BedRug material between your truck bed and the tailgate, it will smooth out the junction and look a lot better. My 2012 install took a couple of weeks before it laid down properly, but the 2016 install lays in the gap quite nicely. I cannot relieve your disappointment with either the design or installation but IMHO there is not a better bed liner on the market. I have had Rhinoliners and line-x liners sprayed in previous trucks and been unhappy with both. And, I would never subject a truck of mine to a drop-in liner. Regardless, I hope you come to enjoy your new bedliner (especially after you have crawled around in the bed, on your knees, for awhile.

Hi Just_Me - I am a little confused! in entry #59 you said that you have the rail installed on your forward bulkhead, Yet, in #63 you say "there is still a gap at the top much like the previous video shows." The rail you installed, should fill the gap. The video you mentioned does not have a rail installed.

If installing a rail filled the gap on the bulkhead then we would not be having this conversation... I have a rail installed, there is still a gap. You see, the 16 has different dimensions than the 15, yet bed rug uses the same part for both.

So, the feelings of the designers on the absence of a rail... They are irrelevant. The company chose to sell "good enough" and people are defending that decision.

As to the tailgate, again, not the same part between 15 and 16.

Do you have a 16 with a bed rug?

In the video, the bed rug stops at the top of the raised ridge. The rail does not cover that area completely... So I ask again, do you have a 16 with a bedrug?

Hi again Just_Me - Yes, I have a 2016 Tacoma Sport Access Cab Please note my entries #40 (note the tiedowns on either side of the rail), #47 & #49, those are all pics of my BedRug installed in my 2016 BBP Taco Sport. Note also that the Corners fit snugly against the bottom of the rail added from my 2012. As discussed earlier, the BedRug does sag in the middle of the forward bulkhead (where I began the sidewall install) because I failed to pull it tight enough when I began. I plan to correct that oversight when the weather warms up a little.

I have a 2016 Limited Long Box with a BedRug installed and I am very happy with the fit. After it settled in the truck for a couple of weeks I restretched everything and it looks even better!

This exactly! I've cancelled my bedrug order until a time this either gets resolved or I locate a like product. For a company to sell "good enough" is not good enough for me.

The Taco Cana - I am sorry to see that you have cancelled your order. But, that's what makes us all unique - we all have our preferences. I hope that you find a bedliner to your liking. I for one a. VERY satisfied with my BedRug. I admit that it looks better with a rail installed, but that's just MHO. Enjoy Tacoma World and your new Taco!

There was a request for me to post pictures. Here they are. There is the rail, mounted and yet a gap remains. There is also the ill fitting tailgate part. This is not by design, his is a company not willing to admit that they either don't care or are just unwilling to correct a problem.

Defend them all you want, but if this was a wheel, you'd not think it was so cool to have a piece designed to intentionally not fit right.

That gap in your picture (entry #73) is a far cry from 2" and appears to be similar to both mine and "8102"s. Let it set for a week or so and restretch it as 8102 (#70) and I (#68) have previously mentioned. The bow in the tailgate is because the installer did not let the BedRug sit in the sun with a weight on it as mentioned in the instructions that came with the BedRug and the videos posted earlier in this thread. Look at the bow in 8102's tailgate (entry #12). His was considerably worse than yours, yet after restretching the liner (see entry #70) he is quite pleased with his install. I recommended a solution using a piece of PVC pipe as I explained in entries earlier in this thread. The pipe holds the velcro apart so you can stretch the carpet properly. Had the manufacturer changed the design to fit the 2016 bed (obviously without the added rail), you'd complain there is too much material at the forward bulkhead. But, if you are that dissatisfied with your bedliner, simply have it removed and send it back to the manufacturer. Your install actually looks quite good! Bottom line, you have been informed how to correct the fit of your bedliner, now you have two choices: either follow the instructions you have been given and enjoy your BedRug or return it to the place where you got it for a refund. End of discussion. . .

Actually, if it were properly designed to fit a 16, then the rail would mount on top of the bedrug like on the tailgate cap.

My question is why are you so butt hurt over this issue? Do you work for bedrug?

As I don't work for you, sleep with you, or for that matter even know you... Your attitude and your "end of discussion" comments may not be the best way to keep a polite conversation in this forum. Honestly, I hope you are done talking.

Just_Me - see my entry #37. I hate seeing someone trash a good product when they are unwilling to follow good advice or read instructions. You complain just to hear yourself talk or see your words in print. As I said, your installation actually looks very good.
I just don't want other potential customers swayed by your dubious comments. This forum was intended for us Taco owners to help one another. I have tried to assist you with your bedliner issue (which you misrepresented prior to posting your photos). But, it is obvious that you aren't looking for helpful suggestions, you just want to bash a good product.

So, I came here after seeing other installs of a product that I based my purchase on. Not one of them left gaps in the install. I called the company and they were the ones to tell me that the gaps are intentional. Even though they don't exist in any of their other installs.

I have given my opinion in an opinion forum. You have run to their defense at every chance as well as spoken to me in a way that you wouldn't face to face.

I hope you do work for bedrug and they pay you well. If not they should know that it's people like you that are killing their reputation. While you are helping other taco owners, remember yours is just an opinion, same as ours.

If tacomaworld isn't really a place for the free exchange of information and thought there should be a change in the title.

Here is a photo of an install on a 2009 Tacoma. Same part number, same product being sold to 2016 owners. It's clear to me that the rug fills the gap in this photo and is installed using the single strip Velcro which adheres to the smooth part of the bulkhead directly above the ribs and directly below the rail, aka "the gap". Is anyone not curious as to why Bedrug now recommends using the square pieces of Velcro to attach to the ribs vs the single strip attached to the bulkhead? I might speculate it's because it's now being adhered to the ribs because it doesnt reach the gap. I have no doubt Bedrug will correct this for the 2016 models and a new product will be released. The gap issue is and should be a deal breaker for any 2016 owners IMO.

Thank you for your reply. However, I don't feel my preference to expect a $400+ part to fit a $30k+ truck is in any way unique. Settling for a product is not the same as being satisfied with one. Just my opinion.

It would not make any sense to have the rail mount over the carpet, the rail is intended to have hardware in it, things mounted to it etc - the rail needs to be rock solid against the bed. I have a much older bed rug so it may be different but is there any Velcro on the back of your bed rug tailgate piece ? It would be impossible for one to bow up like that because there is Velcro on it holding it flare to the tailgate.

Edit - on the second gens the ribs are under the top of the carpet right up to the rail too. You will actually want that bit of a gap of you ever go to install one of the bed rail LED lighting kits too. Having the carpet right at the bottom of the rail made that a PITA.
