Maybe it's just me.....If so, please disregard.

1" of snow and people lose their freekin' MINDS! Must have passed 20 wrecks on the way to work. 2 were police cars that slid off the road in places where they KNOW it will be slick. Some people driving interstate like it was sunny, clear and 80 degrees. Others driving in the fast lane, going 12mph.

    Grrrrrrrrrrr!

    Now! I feel better!

    yup

    same here

going north on 95 100 miles saw 7 wrecks, 4 attended by troopers, 3 new

none too bad but they were in the ditch or up on guardrail

I think it has to be shit tires, people are poor, and tires cost a TON

glance around any parking lot and you have more bald ass tires than good ones

It's a nationwide problem, trust me. Even in the northern states, where "We Know How To Drive On Snow", I used to see multiple wrecks during the first snowfall each year. Scary part was that a very high percentage of the vehicles in the ditches were SUVs or 4X4 trucks.

Haha, Ohio is even worse. 1" of snow and everyone does 10mph on cleared and salted roads and still somehow end up in the ditch. I take back roads just to avoid them. There should be separate tests and license for driving in the snow or rain.

It's very common to see people who're on their first 4wd, or very little experience with one to get that "10' tall and bullet proof" attitude in a 4wd. They think they're unstoppable. And you know what? They ARE.....4wds don't stop any better than grandma's Kia on ice and packed snow.

I grew up in Indiana. The state has a much higher operating budget for snow removal than Kentucky does (where I live now) The state gets our earlier and hits the roads harder on the Hoosier roads. I work in Louisville. Back when I was still living north of the Ohio River, I'd have ZERO issues getting to the bridge, then once I crossed into Ky, pandemonium would set in.

    So I moved over here.....

    I need my head examined.

Remember what Garrison Keillor said; "The main advantage of four wheel drive is that it lets you get further back in the woods before you get stuck!"
Of course, regular car and pickup drivers aren't the only ones like this...some years ago I was driving my Freightliner in a convoy of trucks coming south down I-81 in Pennsylvania, south of the Turnpike, heading towards the Md. border. All of us were in the right lane, running about 40-45 on kinda greasy traction conditions. A voice comes on the CB radio, telling us that "You Americans are chicken, WE know how to drive on snow, I'm not gonna wait on you, Etc...Etc..." About then, a nice Western Star Conventional towing a flatbed load of lumber blasts past in the left lane, running about 60, and kicking up snow everywhere. The truck was an owner-operator from Quebec. He blasts out of sight...for about 15 minutes, until we all drive past him jackknifed in the middle of the road, the tractor folded right into the trailer, with the side of the sleeper totally caved in. The driver was standing outside the truck, and it looked like he was cursing up a STORM! We just tooted our horns, and waved as we motored right on by him, since there was a trooper coming towards the accident from the other direction. Lots of pithy comments on the C.B. for the next couple of miles...

Same here in central VA, wrecks all over the highways and secondaries because we literally got a dusting last night and it was below freezing (barely). I think it is more about distracted driving. People are just not used to paying attention when they drive, they zone out, play with their phones, fiddle in compartments and with radio, and just have no concept of the fact that they are in control of a 3,000-5,000 pound object going 70 mph that has the potential to kill someone with the slightest movement of the steering wheel. I often tell my wife that it isn't much of a stretch to liken a vehicle on the road to a gun, and the same level of care should be taken when operating both.

Tons of 4X4's in the ditch 10 days ago on my way to work in Nevada where I work out of town. In my beater 4X2 '93, mostly 4X4's, even one SUV type upside down. A few still breezed by me, I was doing 45-50 mph. I drive too fast usually, passing expensive 4X4's, not this time.
