So much for "brand spanking new". 395 miles on my new Tacoma limited and someone just hit me from behind at 50mph. Just over 13k in damages. I was stopped in the left turn lane, about to turn into my neighborhood and some jack-wad not paying attention hit me at about 50. I had to be transported by ambulance, but I am okay. The other driver was ticketed. I was deputy sheriff for 25 years (now retired), and I investigated dozens and dozens of accidents like this. Got to see it from the other angle today. I was just getting to know my truck and getting more and more comfortable with all the extras in the limited. Now this.

happened to me in my Tacoma I bought before this one, had it for 2 weeks. I am suing for injuries. You should go get an MRI and be sure you don't have herniated discs. Mine was 45mph as I was sitting at a red light and was hit by a taxi. I have one bulging disc and my passenger had 4 herniated discs.
Good luck feel free to PM me if you have any questions about this. I am in TX and have a great lawyer, near the end of my case.

Ugh I hate threads like these.......what rotten luck. As someone who rides a bike I most afraid and am aware there is NOTHING one can put on the back of their vehicles to prevent this.

People who rear end others ARE NOT LOOKING UP....Its that simple. Want proof?
IF these drivers could not see a school bus...........all the flashing brake lights in the world will not prevent a rear end collision.

We are not driving school busses or Fire trucks

How in this great wide world can someone NOT see a school bus? VERY simple...They simply are not looking up.

and a fire truck for good measurefiretruck.jpg

    A tad more than $13k

Man, hope you heal up quickly.
Don't forget to demand depreciation value from the offending party's insurance carrier---on top of the repairs. Check your state statutes.

Distracted driving. Texting being the main culprit. I just want to reach out and smack someone when I see this happening.

    Glad your ok OP.

I never look up....not sure staring at the roof of a vehicle does much. Looking forward helps though. Don't worry...I got your back. :D

OP - Glad to hear you are alive....that's some seroius impact. Just thinking something like that could have pushed you into oncoming traffic and been worse is scarry.

That to me warrants a severe ass beating if it was some fool texting and driving. Infuriates me.

Thankfully it turned out well so far OP, could have been much worse

Damn OP! Hope you didn't get hurt too bad. 50mph is pretty significant.

Won't lie, at first I saw the title and thought @BlueT had got ahold of your truck and tried a diesel and disk brake swap.

I hope you get a new truck out of it. Vehicles are just not the same after a hit like that. I would demand a new replacement.
Really glad to hear you are ok. I have been rear-ended just like that at that speed...not fun!

Ouch... That sucks, OP! Were they texting or something? Glad you are okay, and I hope you get a new truck out of the deal- with that much damage, that truck will never be the same. :(

As much as we would all like that, its just not how the world works. At most he will get diminished value for being such a new vehicle.

Glad you're OK OP. Rest up, and don't think about the truck too much for now.

Just happened to my niece and it totaled her brand new Camry Hybrid. Fortunately her and her two kids are not seriously hurt, but they have back injuries. A woman hit them between 50 and 60+ mph never even trying to slow down. She had a prior DWI, but was not drunk but had a suspension and expired plates and minimum insurance. Sucks because you can't get blood out of a stone so if your the one hit you suffer the loss of vehicle and bodily injury because of these idiots.

Dang! And I thought my $7,000 was bad. And mine was still drive able.

Bound to happen to someone on here at some point with the amount of members on here.

Sorry to hear man. At least there won't (shouldn't) be any at fault disputes.
