cool. I'll mention it at the 5k check but I've seen no issues or
warning lights on mine. Going to try and talk them into changing the
oil too - by using one of the 2 we get free.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I think one thing you will learn, as you own Toyota vehicle its getting harder to find good service person. There are few out there but they are hard to find.
Plus people needs to realize that adjusting that fluid is not one time deal if you pump your transmission full of air already. So I doubt even the best tech to be able to get you at proper level in one trip. It takes miles to pump all the air out of the system. Took me 6 months to get my transmission to finally get rid of all the air. (its not a 2016 Tacoma but similar transmission) So I would build some patience.

Are there any trans pans for the 2nd gen that have a dipstick and tube, even from a different application that could be modded or adapted?

I don't agree, new models some times take time to identify new problems, and train the techs on how to deal with them.
Another part of the problem is the Corporate mentality that doesn't want to pay their techs to perform ever increasingly complicated labor operations!
Never hurts to meet your tech, maybe throw him a tip, you'd be amazed how the service improves!

funny you should ask. just parked in my garage when i put it in park the small center screen over the steering wheel displayed a small green circle clock looking gauge with a arrow pointing to the 10 o'clock position. my small screen is set to MPH and miles to empty the green thing was on top part of the screen just under the temp indicator to the left. never seen this before! other than that no.

what was it? I can't think of what that would be. The only green lights I've ever seen or the headlights
and fog lights indicator and the ECT when felt like playing around with that.

Blue , I am wondering if the vent on the side of your transmission casing was plugged up with mud or something .
The only part of the transmission cooling system that is sealed against air movement or atmosphere is the cooler and cooler lines
When that vent gets plugged up on the transmission casing , you will have a heck of a time trying to get your fluid filled properly
I had a bad experience from a plugged transmission vent one time lol
When transmission fluid gets hot , it does expand . If you are not careful when assembling a transmission and accidentally forget the vent , fluid has to go somewhere when its hot. In other words , its really easy to build a pressure cooker when you use mismatched parts.
I will add to this for you guys that enjoy mudding . keep your breathers clean or do the vent mod and you will keep the fires away from your truck

Update on my dealership madness, Just got a call from the second dealer. The Tech was able to duplicate both my concerns (the trans slipping and the virbation while braking around 15-20mph) They had to pull the tech off my truck earlier this afternoon to help keep up with the normal scheduled work and they will continue diagnostic and check the fluid level in the morning.

I know a lot of techs that don't like to anounce to forums that they work at a dealer.
I don't mind if any knows that i am. But i'm also not here to diag every problem.
As for fluid on any World Standard Toyota trans level is very important. As little as 1/4qt low can make them shift funny. They are very touchy.
My FTS said they are working on a ecu update for the cruise issue no word on when it will be released yet.
The only trans related TSB that i found currently is for a 3 4 shift flare. I'm at home now so i can't open the file to see the details.

What is the cruise issue you're talking about? Is it the flutter/shudder felt while cruising?

Constant shifting not shifting into 5 6 after resuming cruise. I read a few complaints on a few different forums/threads. There is a update coming out at some point. It might also cover a few other concerns too.
I figure theres going to be a few updates over the next year to get all the bugs worked out.

You could have bumped it with your knee. That green clock on the center screen is absolutely the Cruise Control indicator.

The 3-4 flare TSB is for the 4 cylinder trucks.
And you should be able to access TIS from anywhere now. Used to only be masters and mdt's but that changed awhile back.

It MUST be Toyota WS. Some carquest carry it but you will most likely have to go to the dealer for it.
