Do all 4x4 models have the same engine skid plate? Do 4x2 models come with skid plates? No luck on search.

Not sure if the 4X4 have the same skid plate but the 4X2 V6 has a skid plate (if you want to call it that). It has to be removed to change the oil filter element.

4x4 and 4x2 have the same skid plate. The only difference is that only TRD Off-Road's have the additional plate behind the front skid plate, other models don't.

I think they mentioned that the 2017 TRD PRO version of the skid plate is a little thicker and it's easier to change the oil too. Not sure if it's exactly the same as the 2016, but it's what I heard.

It's more like a road debris deflector... The 16 stock skid plate is basically sheet metal

You would think they would have put a small removable cover to make it easier to change the oil. But, WTF, that might cost Toyota an extra $1.75 materials cost to do. And the way they bargain with their OEM suppliers, they could probably get that done at no extra cost. If I am not mistaken, our 2009 Lexus RX350 had a removable cover. On the model we have now (2013), the oil filter is behind the under carriage cover (you certainly can't call it a skid plate) and is fully accessible. From what I'm hearing (reading on the Forum) I probably should have waited until the '17 model. But, I needed to make a move now so I got the '16. Never bought a first year model from Toyota-i.e.-05' TRD Tundra (no problems) and '12 TRD Tundra (no problems except for recently hitting a mailbox and ******* up the side!).
