Just bought an older cap for my Tacoma with these (4) bolted on the roof (photo below). What type of roof rack would fit this? Looks like the Thule artificial rain gutters, but they are mounted to the top of the cap...

That's shaped like brackets I bought for gutter mount roof racks. They can mount on the top or sides or your cap. Mine are heavy aluminum. I can post some pictures tomorrow.

They look like they'll fit the Yakima Rain Gutter Towers. I'm not familiar with Thule.

They work like a champ! Aren't they called "Quik and Easy Clamps" or something like that?

Yes, make your cross board and bolt it to the clamp.

You can also get adapters to use pipe. Great rack system and a hell of a lot cheaper then Yakima/Thule.

I just can't bring myself to mount them on a new cap.

Looks like you can get them with a tube holder already installed that accepts 1" round tubes. That means I could use a yakima crossbar with the Quick-n-Easy towers (or pipe like you say). Do you think this would be stronger than a Sportsrack rain gutter rack (made by Thule) the pricepoint is about the same.

I'd love to see a picture of the rack on your old truck if you have a picture to share!

I never got it on. Bought a new truck and cap with rails on it. Stuck with these parts now.

Would you want to sell the towers?

They'll accept both Yakima & Thule towers and can be mounted either on the side or the top. Mine are mounted on the top with Yakima components.

Thanks for the picture. What do you usually carry up there? I have a similar shell and with the rack, a canoe will be pretty high up there. Any issues at highway speeds?

Canoes & kayaks mostly. Strap them down good and I've never had an issue at any speed. I got the Leer 180 for the extra headroom and because one of my canoes has a lot of rocker (looks like a banana) and the bow would hit my truck cab roof.

One of my favorite canoes - Mad River Explorer 15' in Royalex (just before they stopped making it)

Well...believe it or not I don't currently own one. I felt they got complacent & stale with their models & materials. They make a good canoe, but there are many others that are equal or better. I've got 2 other Scott canoes, a Lincoln (moved to Mass from Maine) and a bunch of Grumman aluminum canoes stashed at remote ponds up in northern Maine. I pick used ones up on CL.
