Trying to find an iPod adapter for a 2010 single cd with the factory head unit controls. I previously used USA SPEC with a Civic which worked excellent through the head unit , but they only list Tacoma up to 2009. Then there is the PT545-00082 for a lot more money. The sticker for the truck lists the radio as:

"AM/FM/CD w/4 Speakers, Aux Audio Input, MP3-CD & Satellite Radio Capable"

Has anyone installed an iPod adapter controlled through the factory radio in a 2010 with the single CD radio? This one has the AM-SAT button.

The USAspec one should work I think? Someone will chime in.

Have you thought about the Toyota unit? I think it retails for about $240, but it does charge the iPod and I think it operates through your head unit. You do lose your Satellite radio capibility though.

I have a 2010 DC, I'm using the USA Spec PA15-TOY, works great for me.

i have a great interface in my 2008. i hooks into the back of the head unit, and you still have full contol of the ipod. kind of expensive, but worth it. i have never had a cd in my player.

    You have a 2010.......

I thought you guys already have an AUX input (or similar) in the trucks from the factory?

    Or was that an option?

Aux input is just a 3.5mm jack.

Can't you use that for an ipod hook up instead of buying a separate thing? I thought that was the whole idea for having the Aux on the new tacomas...for MP3 player hookup.

    Yes but...

*It doesnt charge, meaning you have to also use a cig. light charger = LOTS of chords (for a neat freak like me)
*If you use the headphone jack in your ipod, its amplified and sound is junk
*If you use a charger with a line in instead of headphone jack, no eq but its QUIET

Something that connects right to the system will charge, sound better, allow you to control the pod through the stereo if you desire, and will allow you to have your ipod hidden should you so choose.

FWIW Ive read terrific reviews for the USA Spec, but after much deliberation Im considering a new Headunit. Ipod capable, controls the ipod much better than the USASpec, and will provide better sound than the factor HU as well as more output.

That sucks.... I mean, the stock aux jack isn't what I thought it was cracked up to be. A new head unit would be nice - good luck finding exactly what you're looking for!!

But yeah, the USA Spec unit is great. Another one that's available (for anyone else reading these threads) is the ipod2car PXDP. It's a bit cheaper, doesn't have as many functions as the USA spec...I actually owned one for 5 years before I upgraded to a USA spec. Can't go wrong with either of 'em.

That's about the same as mine. The box is in the same area but my wiring comes up from the bottom of the center console and my ipod stays in my console. I wanted it to be 'hidden'

Thanks all for the input on this, as I'd rather do some homework up front than have to rework a project.

DMB has a lot of info in that thread. The pictures are a big help. A full frontal of the factory unit would help confirm compatability, I'll have to add one when it's done.

I use the Aux jack and have no problems, sound is great, but I can only control volume, but I control that from the steering wheel buttons. never touch the head unit anymore, why reach. I bring it in the house all the time so I just charge it there.

Sorry for the slow response 4low2go and Janster.
I have a automatic 2010, using the USA Spec on my stock 6 disk changer. I tried using the aux jack first but, like the others have pointed out:
    1. the sound is very crappy compared to the USA Spec I'm using now (Maybe I had a bad aux cable?).
    2. You can control it directly with the stock head unit- I was able set up 6 playlist on my iphone that was recognized by the stock unit as the 6 CDs to choose from to play, that was a nice feature.
    3. It charges. I had the cable installed in narrow tray to the right of the shift. Saw someone else did that here. Fits really nice in that little tray.

Problem with the iphone is that the battery drains fast so if I did a long trip with just the aux jack I would have been out of juice. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the confirmation. With already having an excellent experience with the USA SPEC, that is my preferred way to go. The 6 disc changer unit is the upgraded JBL version which I have read works with the PA15-TOY, but will it work with the single CD unit? If the Toyota PT545-00082 ipod converter will work with the single and the six CD system, Then the USA SPEC should as well.

From my reading the PA15TOY should work with both.
