Just put down my deposit for a 2016 Tacoma and wanted to make some changes when it arrives in the next few weeks. After doing a search of this forum I decided that a TRD catback would be nice since it would not have an effect on the factory warranty. Then I found out that it is not offered yet for the gen3. There was a thread for a gen2 catback that was cut and pasted on a gen3 but I am not sure that would be the best route for me. Does anybody know when the gen3 TRD catback will be ready for sale?
There are also some interesting threads on a potential diesel Tacoma in the future. If I could get a Tacoma with a Hilux diesel for less than a $2000 premium I would be all for it but that is not going to happen in this country. I bought a diesel vehicle in 1978 and another in 1985 and they were both great engines. The only extra maintenance required was changing the fuel filters every 15k miles. Both went over 145k miles and never had a single problem.
Anyway, this is a fantastic forum and I hope someone can let me know when the TRD cat back will be available since the person I talked with at the Toyota help line was clueless.

I'm thinking about the same thing myself. I'd like to wait for the TRD but at the same time Magnaflow has their own cat-back system already out and from what I can tell they sound similar in the sense that they aren't crazy loud and aren't supposed to drone on the highway.

I'm just after something a little deeper. I know it's no 5.7L V8, but I like a deep/mellow tone on idle and acceleration, even on a V6 and that's what it sounds like they both are good at.

Whatever I do, I want to make sure I don't damage the stock muffler just in case.

I feel the same way and just do not want to wake up all of my neighbors 3 blocks away. Have you any idea how long the wait for the TRD system will be ?

TRD has been real sluggish with their Gen3 Tacoma goodies. Parts guy told me he heard nothing will be out until summer at the minimum.

Well, that is better than it could be. I was prepared to wait until the end of the year before I started seriously looking at other options such as the Magnaflows mentioned earlier. Thanks for the reply.

Update: The new TRD Pro Tacoma does indeed have a TRD exhaust system.
Don't know when It'll be available for the rest of us, but there's a short sound clip at the very end of this review video at about 3:26 for those that are interested. I'm still thinking Magnaflow myself, but at least there is now an OEM option. And the tip looks nice!

At least we know it exists now.

When the Tacoma TRD Pro arrives will Toyota post higher Horsepower and Torque numbers for the catback exhaust and cold air intake?

I'm definitely waiting for the TRD exhaust. I'll be getting the upgraded intake as well.

Rock Lobster, I noticed that you also added headers. Did that void your Toyota warranty while you still had it? I know you are now out of warranty so did you add them before the warranty had expired? It also appears that you have turbocharged your Taco. Does that mean you did not use the TRD supercharger? Thanks
