as the title says i want to build a weatherproof bed box for keeping chains straps shackles and maybe some other recover emergency sh** jumper cables and yall get the drift. I want it to be about 12" deep same height aas the fender well so approx 10"( i havent measureed the fender well heiight yet) and the width between the fenders. i have access to a spool gun amd plenty of alumium at work any ideas on design? i want it water tight as can be and i am going to bolt through the bed and use a flat washer and nut against the bed mat and use wing nuts and a rubber gasket washer on the inside of the box so that can remove it if i need to to load the 4 wheeler or whatever. i need some ideas on how to build this guys i am going full retard and drawing ablank herre other than the concept

What about building the shell out of aluminum like you say, but use a plastic storage container as a liner.
That way it would be removable for cleaning plus it would be easy to achieve water tightness.

Not sure if your budget allows, but there are tons of off-the-shelf boxes that are water tight and tough as hell. Pelican, Contigo, etc. could just drill a hole in the bottom of it and boot it down or strap it down with no drilling.

Seems like you're make making this a lot harder than it needs to be.

i have a stainless steel box made and installed between the fenders. it measures 22"x 42" with padlock and i used 1x4" boards to frame it in (hold it in place) this allows me to remove it when i need to use the bed for other things.

I proposed this same thing to KB Voodoo when he had his contest but apparently he either didn't think it was a good idea or it couldn't be built profitably. Oh well, I think its a fantastic idea and wish you luck. If I can come up with a spool gun I plan to try it myself.

A couple of brackets and wing nuts secure the box to the bed rail. I have about 50 bucks in this box - side handles, locking latch and interior lift strut.

    Step 1: make box.

Step 2: secure box by drilling holes and adding necessary hardware

Step 3: add gasket material wherever necessary and a latches for the box lid that apply even enough pressure to make use of said gaskets.

Step 4: take pictures of what you did and show all of us. Try to do something noteworthy and different enough that it inspires others to do the same.

I'll drink a beer and :spy:

    Haven't had any today.

This morning I woke up thinking I need to design a box with a lid to store stuff, but I couldn't figure out what a box with a lid looks like.

I am a fabricator so you'd think it'd be easy, well let me tell you - it isn't.

Boxes by nature are complex, 5 sided beasts. A lid adds a 6th side, which further complicates things and causes my creative talents to stumble a bit.

Now that someone has drawn a picture of a box with a lid, it's all clear! What a huge help! I'd never have been able to otherwise envision what it would look like.

A box and lid, how about that! Dadgum!

Now I can go back to fabricating and eating paint.

    ...too much shit to list.
I have a razor blade you can borrow. So, technically, a box cutter, to help you with your fabrication.

How about a cooler? Multifunctional, removable, light weight. Some even have locks.
