2/3 the price, 1/8 the truck. Makes sense to me.

The Pro is much ado about nothing. Anyone can build that truck for far less then I am sure Toyota will charge far more for and dealers will bump that up for those who need the attention that truck will bring, Others will just buy the lenses and grill and call it a day

    Maybe good for bragging rights....

Tacoma and Raptor in the same sentence is silly

I've owned two Raptors; I now own a 2016 Tacoma TRD OR 4wd DCSB. Because I had wanted a Tacoma since they came out in the 90's, I figured I'd capitalize on the ridiculously high resale value of my 2012 Raptor. When I recently traded my 4 year old Raptor, my local Toyota dealer gave me exactly what I paid for my Raptor 4 years earlier as a trade allowance for a new Tacoma. I bought the Tacoma for $1k over invoice. Toyota ended up writing my a check for around $10,000 and I walked away with my brand new paid-off near top of the line Tacoma.

All of the above said, I plan on selling/trading my 2016 Tacoma this fall when I'll be able to order a 2017 Raptor from my local Ford dealer (he charges me invoice price). I feel like I have given this Tacoma an honest try, by I miss the Raptor badly. There is absolutely no comparison between the two trucks. I put the $10k from the Toyota trade into a separate savings account and I figure I'll get at least $30k for what will be a low mileage excellent condition Tacoma TRD OR. $40,000+ down will make the new Raptor somewhat affordable.

I'm not trying to bash the Tacoma in any way, but I always laugh when people try to compare another manufacturer's off road package to the Raptor. Aside from the Raptor, I think the new Tacoma TRD Pro and the Power Wagon are by far the best off road ready trucks made. Everyone elses "off road" package is a joke.

Toyota has no intention of building a $50k mid size truck that would not sell, just for bragging rights. Their shtick is best bang for the buck....not best bang. Imo, this is true in nearly every model they make.

comparing a Raptor with a TRD OR or Pro, not a valid comparison, although offroad wise taco probably has it beat...no I will not go into detail on why.
