There isn't really a correlation between being a good engineer and a good presenter/teacher.

It is likely he misspoke and said the ratios for a different project he is working on. Aren't tundra ratios 4.1 or 4.3 depending on tow or non-tow? I've made presentations before and accidentally called an engine a transmission because I'd just transferred to an engine project after 4 years in transmission.

I'm going to guess that the new trd intake and the trade exhaust are available options. The hood scoop is "functional" if you spring for the trd intake.

Pretty sure the hood scoop is not functional. You can see the plastic insert in one of the pictures. Even without the insert, what would it even do? Get the top of your engine all dirty?

I say well done Toyota. This fills all the gaps that were in the existing base lineup. It's absolutely the one to get in my book but the question now is how much are they going to want for it... under 40 would be awesome, over 45 will be bull shit.

I'm not sure I'll buy one but I like it and it appeals to me (for many of the reasons you stated), but mainly because I'm at a point in my life where I lack time to tinker with my truck due to work, kid, coaching, volunteering and LOTS of other hobbies (like camping, riding mountain bikes and dirtbikes, etc. This truck stock could get me anywhere that I'm going to do any of those things without issue (other than maybe changing the tires out for something that doesn't scream prius).

I'm also old enough and at a point in my career where I'm expected to have a truck that doesn't creak and groan and squeak and squeal like a lot of aftermarket "upgrade parts" tend to do. Don't get me wrong, if I had the time to build and maintain (and more importantly use) a long travel truck I'd love to build one and have it, I just know it's not going to happen.

I was waiting for my shuttle last week in Reno and watched a guy get in a good looking mildly lifted Tacoma in the valet line and watched him drive off with his upper controls arms squeaking all the way, even across a smooth parking lot. I remember those days and don't have any desire to relive them just for the sake of having a "modded" truck.

The process is the same as when I ordered my '16 model. I gave them my CC info for a $500 deposit (although they never charged my card) and i picked out the options I wanted. I doubt there are many new options that aren't available on the current Tacoma so I told them to build it like my current one but in Cement Grey. With them not having a build code yet (expected since they just announced it), I do not have a price on the truck yet. Although I didn't pay it, the MSRP on my current one was $41k so I'm assuming it'll be around the same price range, give or take some.

I've been wanting to buy a trd off road since I had to pass my '99 tacoma on to my son a couple years ago. I figured I would be ready around 2017 and was hoping toyota would bring out a new model tacoma before then. When it came out in '16 I consoled myself that I didn't want the first year model anyway. I wanted the premium and technology package but didn't want the moonroof. I planned on adding a mild lift. Didn't like the grill. Wanted a manual. When the pro was announced it checked everything on my wishlist including the cement color, if I got to choose any color that would be it. Sure it's got some options I wouldn't purchase separately but I'll take those because it has everything else I do want. I'd order it tomorrow but I'm going to the auto show next week and I'm going to wait until I see it in person. Its like the planets are aligned. Oh yeah, they are.

You ordered something without knowing the price?

I'm sure he knows within a few grand of what he'll pay. That's semantics when the price of the truck is 40k.

I've been seeing guys use the "I don't want to buy the first model year" line a lot in the 3rd gen forums and it always leaves me scratching my head. I guess because I don't really consider the 3rd gen to be a totally new truck. Much of the truck is the same as the previous model. Granted the motor is new but only new for the Tacoma. Toyotas been using that motor for some time. Not 100% sure if the tranny is all new or has been used elsewhere in the factory but all in all not much has changed with the 3rd gen other than sheet metal and some interior redesigning. I typically am not one to purchase a first year model but had no issues placing an order for a 16' simply knowing that not much is new so there should not be any widespread major problems.

Yeah, is that a problem? I have a general ballpark of what it will cost me and I'm ok with that. Once Toyota starts releasing more pricing information, I'll know a closer # of what the OTD price will be.

Yea I was thinking that too. Plus they won't even sell a DCSB auto or off-road.

No idea. I'm sure they'd sell tons of short beds if they were available with an auto. That's why they probably won't sell the Pro in Canada. You can't buy the model that it's based on.

Sort of off topic, but isn't there a guy on TW with a 2016 Tacoma that got his wrapped in the cement color? If I remember correctly it looked pretty good.

I've wanted that Cement Gray color ever since I saw it on a Scion TC and FJ. Love it. Now, if it comes with and automatic rear window like the Tundra I'll HAVE to buy it.

If the damn thing was $39-40k I'd even consider it. But I'll bet it's a $45k+ truck easily.
