Dumb question - but I'm too lazy to google. Since we had some snow in TN, everyone panicked and they put about a metric ton of salt on the roads. I've got a little rust on my sliders that looks like it is on the outside of or coming through the power coat. Anyone know the best way to get rid of it? I was thinking a really light sanding and being careful not to take off the coating, and then hitting it with some paint or bedliner spray. Thoughts?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Yes that's what I do to touch up my sliders after wheeling.

If it is coming through the coating, the coating has been compromised and will likely start to flake off in time.

Perfect! That's what I thought, just wanted to get some input.

It doesn't look like it's fully coming through the coating - it's almost like a low spot or something. I'll touch it up and it should be good, it most likely won't snow in TN again for a few years.

If there is rust, it is under the coating. Unless you got a metal flake stuck on the outside that is rusting, the slider is rusting. Gotta have steel exposed to air to rust.

Update on my small rust spots - first, don't let 6 tons of road salt sit on there for 2 weeks (yeah I know I should have sprayed it off). Second, a little sanding with some 400 grit and some black truck bed liner and it's like new. FYI the aerosol spray-on liner perfectly matches the powder coating used on these.:

@RifkinMasterson - Which brand areosol did you use. Just picked up mine bare metal and need to decide what to use to paint them.

So basically powder coating is just bedliner spray? Guessing you are talking about the products below but help me out with the process...

1 - Sand down rusted area.
    2 - Spray with primer..... http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-24...=1457386369&sr=8-5&keywords=automotive+primer
3 - Then spray with bed liner...... http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-24...id=1457386191&sr=8-1&keywords=bed+liner+spray

Last question.... is this also how you would prep the washers?

Just ordered a set and expecting to have to do this at some point given DC area's addiction to road salt.

The powder we use has roughly the same look and feel as said bed liner that way when you scratch them you can touch them up with those bed liners.

As for the washers just wipe them down with acetone and paint 2 or 3 coats of primer and 2 or 3 coats of paint.

Paid for freight yesterday, waiting on delivery and dry weather to get them painted and mounted.

Rain and high humidity the next 2 weeks. Any tips on keeping rust at bay until the weather clears enough to paint?

Wipe them down with light oil helps some just make sure to clean it all off before painting.

For coating your sliders. Those of you that want to do it yourself and/or touch them up I suggest you use Dupli-Color bed coating not the Rust-Oleum brand that's in the products discussed area below because it lasts much longer. Also don't use the Dupli-color bed armor. That stuff get's dirty and does not clean up well at all. I have used them all and the Dupli-Color bed coating is the best!

    Here's a link
    http://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-TR250-Truck-Coating-Aerosol/dp/B002MB6RIY

They also sell it at Advanced Auto but much cheaper

Good info. Does it match the powder coat that Prinsu would do? I don't plan on coating my own but curious for touch up use.

Sorry, I can't say for sure. I don't have one of his racks but it does look like wrinkle PC.
