Interesting question. Since it's a sticky, maybe all can view? Not sure, but would like to find out. It would be a shame to miss that thread as it has the most up to date information on what folks are doing and is the highest viewed thread of this section at all times.

I hear ya. While you can certainly build a tacoma to be capable wheeling, it just doesn't make much sense to me. I built what I wanted. My ride quality/performance is greatly improved, but that's about it. I go "off road" confidently, but rarely will you see tacomas on a jeep/petersens jamboree. The new trd pro comes equiped as heck out of the box, but it's doubtful you'd see one crawling etc. like I said, good on toyota for building their best performing factory toyota yet.

On the other hand, you will see this from time to time:

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
What is the "TRD intake"? The stock motor comes with VVT-iW (variable valve timing w/ Intelligence - Wide) for the intake valves (which allows for the motor to run in Atkinson cycle), VVT-i on the exhaust valves, and comes with variable length intake manifold.

The TRD Pro HP and Tq numbers are identical to the other trims and in the past, Toyota never made a change to powertrain for the TRD Pro trim.

Seems to me the Tacoma Pro is designed for one specific purpose, highspeed desert offroading. Same as the Baja Tacoma that preceded it.

The suspension is tuned for desert roads so you can open the throttle and the suspension will absorb the dips and the washboards while maintaining control in 4HI at speeds 45+ mph.

The Baja suspension did a great job for that purpose, I imagine the Pro will also. It's not designed so you can stuff 33" tires on it so you can look cool or crawl over a rock 1/2" higher than you can with 32" tires.

The web site isn't very helpful. Why do they show 3 identical looking oil caps, 2 at $45 and one at $56? I guess we'll have to wait for more info.

I read on a tundra forum that someone had this part for their truck and someone asked what it was, someone else responded saying, "Smoothes and accelerates the air flow into the intake system thus helping to slightly improve both horsepower and torque."

wondering that myself...i think its probably a little plastic piece that you connect to the intake manifold thats a spiraled funnel shape which creates turbulence to the air coming through it. im looking forward to the new trd parts coming out! probably wont boost hp much if at all but could provide a nice sound and give a little throttle response. plus will be cover under warranty with no issue.

yea unfortunately most of the trd parts do nothing...i had trd intake and exhaust on my fj and it did create more throttle response and gave it a nice sound
