A small handful of select mods.
That Bilstein designed specifically for Toyota for that application. They are not "off the shelf" 5100's.

Looks like your measurements are correct, I still don't understand why some people get 2" of lift with 887 and some get 4" with 885
I've got 3" lift with 887 set at zero

I have been following this thread since it started - thanks for all the info!

-After changing my mind several times, I am ordering an Icon Stage 1 kit today, with an upgrade to the rear 2.0 resi shocks, no rear lift or uca's at this time. I plan to install the kit myself.

-the desired outcome is much improved dampening without any driveline related issues, and level ride height, with the option to increase front preload if needed (if I get a plate bumper), and future rear lift if needed.

    -I have method nv wheels in 17" 0 offset / 4.75" backspacing

I am wanting a 1.5" max front lift at this time to level it

Would anyone with more expericence recommend the CMC if I want to go with a 285/70/17 K02 or do you guys think it would look too stuffed with that size tire with the amount of front lift? I am pretty satisfied with the 265/70/17 K02's I am running at the moment.

    Thanks for any input

Like stated by @CoTacoTRD the YELLOW OEM bilsteins that come on the TRD OFFROAD and TRD SPORT trucks from the factory are NOT 5100's. That is unless you are referring to the TRD PRO tacoma in recent years Bilstein has tailored the suspension for the PRO model truck with a lift from the factory. In 2017 the TRD PRO tacoma will come with Fox suspension tweaked by TRD.

@BCJimmyZ great choice for your lift!! Icon makes a killer product and you will be very happy with it. Im sure you could fit the 285's but will have to do some fender trimming and probably the CMC with that amount of lift. the fender liners are just plastic, you don't need that right? :D

To answer some of the recent questions about spring rate,

We did send the springs from our 2016 out to one of our spring manufacturers to be tested for spring rate. We are doing this in hopes of developing a spring that will work well on the factory shocks and give a 2 inch lift. Similar to the 112-620 coils or the 521-600's we have. For those interested, i have posted the spec sheet. Spring rate on the factory coil did indeed come back at 717lbs/inch. Spec sheet is attached to this post

What you do need to keep in mind is that spring rate is not the only piece of the puzzle to look at. Spring length, amount of preload placed on the spring, and the valving of the shock will have a equally important role in ride, performance and lift height. While our Boss kit does have a 600lb/inch spring rate, the spring length and preload are not going to be the same as factory and the valving of the shock is much different so therefore comparing just the spring rates is not going to give you the whole picture

Springs are really just meant to hold the vehicle at ride height. The valving of the shock will have a bigger difference on how the truck rides than a small difference in spring rate will. For example, Toyota wanted the truck to be a smoother ride over bumps and such. So they typically run a higher spring rate and less compression damping so when the truck is driving down the road, those small little bumps will feel softer. Since the small bumps are not causing the suspension to travel a whole lot, the effect on the ride from the spring rate increase is negligible

With most aftermarket suspension, we do the opposite. We drop the spring rate and raise the compression and rebound valving of the shock. This helps with overall travel at slow speeds so the suspension has the ability to compress more if you are offroad. The increased valving will allow for better resistance to hard hits like hitting whoops. The downside is that the suspension will feel a little firmer over the smaller stuff like cracks in the road. However the pro's of increased damping and travel far outweigh the con of the suspension feeling firmer for most of what we do.

Another important piece is that preload only affects ride height and not spring rate or stiffness. That is provided the shock can extend the same amount that you are adding in preload. With that being said, The current Bilstein 5100 valving and adjustments are for the factory springs from a 05-15 Tacoma which are listed as a 500lb/inch rate in some OME spring guides So you are installing a 717lb spring on a shock meant for 500lb coil. This means that the preload adjustments will be very different on the 717lb 3rd gen coil compared to the 500lb 2nd gen coil. Now we do offer a 620lb coil for the 5100's but preloading it anymore than the 2nd clip causes issues.

For a visual comparison, Here is a 07 Tacoma coil, a 16 Tacoma coil, and a OME 885

Is the toytec springs as long as the OME? 600lb toytec spring? Will it sag quicker on a 16?

Well here she is all done.
    5100's set at .85
    887 upfront
    AAL in the rear
I feel the front is a tad higher then the rear. No big deal to me.
    FN BFD 18x9 0 offset
    285/65/18's BFG ko2's
I still need a alignment but no rubbing besides on the front wind plastic thing. Lol
Over all I'm supper happy with it all. I think I might try a small wheel spacer just to give it a little poke.

Did you also have a top plate?
    or just 887 and 5100?

I ask because I have the toytec springs and toytec top plate on 5100's set at 0

no top plate, just taco lean spacer, started with 887 at 0 on the 5100s and it was less than 2 inches, than bumped it up a notch

Great looking truck. Did you upgrade your UCA or running stock?

I'm still run the stock ones. At the moment I have enough room to slide my fingers behind the tire and in between the UCA but I still need alignment so we'll see.

Getting all kinds of "options" and advice for "leveling" my '16 TRD Off Road 4x4 Extra Cab. I want to go level, but not a huge lift, and go from the OE 16" wheels to 17" and the biggest tires I can without trimming or scraping. I'm told 2.25" front spacers, "leveling" shocks, 3x1 leveling kit...one place never mentioned replacing control arms, another says I have to to get the caster right.

Edit to add: Would consider no lift at all I guess if I can add 17" wheels (which are stock on the Sport) so assume that's not an problem)...I don't want to have issues down the road, or warranty probs.

    At a loss here...advice appreciated.

@.280Rem you could easily fit 17's if you wanted to just swap out wheels but you would probably have to keep the same 31" tires if you didn't want to spend on a lift at the same time. the TRD OR come with 265/70/16 from the factory, the TRD SPORT comes with a 17" wheel and 265/65/17 if i remember right. To jump up in wheel size and then bump up to say 285's you would have to have a lift kit of some sort, and probably still have to trim some of the plastic fender liner and or take mud flaps off. If you went up to 285's you might even need to do the Cab Mount Chop which is fairly cheap and easily done at local fab shops. Toytec offers a couple kits for the 2016's which would get you where you wanted to be, give them a shout and they can get you set up and answer any questions you might have.
