To say tire shopping to me is head spinning would be an understatement. Currently have 245/75r16 and after doing some reading on here, looking at getting 265/70r16. Use = 10% of the use would be dirt or off roads while camping/kayaking and pulling small pop-up, 50% city roads and 40% highway. My tacoma is a 2007 4x2.

After reading on here, looking at Michelin, Cooper or BF Goodrich. I know there is a big price difference, but wondering if there is a big performance difference for my limited use. At Pep Boys sale, out-the-door Cooper Adventure A/T is $550 and Michelin Defenders $711 and BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A $764.

Looking for any suggestions models as Tacoma World has been great so far as I have had my truck for almost a year now - thanks!

I'd go with the Michelin Defender LTX MS. The extra $150 should be worth it in the end, as a lot of guys get 90k+ miles on the Michelins. And they're super quiet and will be fine for light off road (as long as you're not rubbing sides on rocks). The new defender in that size (265-70-16) has what mich calls "decreased rolling resistance". I just got some Defenders in that size about a month ago. I was coming from 245's (MS2) just like you. They're an awesome tire. Quietest tire I've ever driven on. You'll be surprised at the difference. I'm not sure about the other tires you mention, but I'm about 100% certain you wouldn't regret a Michelin purchase.

I sold my MS2's with 45k miles for $300 on Craigslist. I just wanted the 265's instead of the 245's. And with 45k miles, I'd barely even put a dent in the tread. It was still at 9/32 after 4 years. Impressive if you ask me. I could hit them with tire dressing and the tires would look like I bought them a week ago. I'm about 90% city/highway and 10% off road.
