    Hey all,

    I am going to install the URD Maf Calibrator this weekend and had a couple questions for those of us that have made this modification. My question is not of the installation, but rather the tuning of the device. I have read up on Gadgets U-Tune pdf, but it seems dated towards the first gen Tacoma. Is there a more up to date tuning instruction out? I believe the device has not changed, so the method of tuning should be similar, but the recommended tools for tuning are over a decade old and are not as available as they once were. I am looking for suggestions on a current market OBD2 Diagnostics device that will help me with this project or any other pertinent information that could assist.

    Also currently I have a PLX devices wide band o2 module reading out to a speed hut AFR gauge. I have the gen 2 module so I am not sure I have data logging capabilities. I may just contact the manufacturer on that one.

    Tuning procedure is the same.

    Haivng the possibility to do datalogging can be verry usefull. This way you can produce records based on TPS and LTFT/STFT to work on the closed loop section of the map and TPS versus AFR for open loop section. This way you can work on your map (Using R4 sofware) well installed at your desk and then download in the truck. After that you redo everything until you're satisfied.

    I'm using an Innovate AFR gauge connected (MTS chain) to an Innovate OT-1 (now it's OT-2 wifi).

    Thanks for the info. Any suggestion on the appropriate obd2 diagnostic tool? I want this setup to be as simple as possible before the actual tuning begins. Do I need the data logging of the afr to do this? I know it would make things a lot simpler.

    The OT-2 can be used to datalog all ODBII signals from the truck and read/erase error code.

    An AFR gauge is not mandatory but very usefull. The one that i use (innovate MTX) can be connected to the OT-2 so you re datalogging everything in the same session. I can even connect my boost gauge out in the in of the AFR and the out of the AFR in the in of the OT_1 to create a MTS chain. I'm talking about the one i know but there is surely other system and supplier.

    Thanks. I'll look into that reader. And I will check and see what my plx unit puts out for a signal. I think it has outputs specifically for this type of situation.

    So I ordered the stuff needed to record data, and it hasn't seemed to be working right. Its not recording the AFR but it is recording other things. Basically I need someone to help work with me on the data logging, then figure out how to get the information off that damn I pad. Stupid thing. I have not messed with it much lately so the I'm kind on hold with it till my buddy comes up from Mass. He is my helper for most truck mods.

    As for the Maf calibrator....its still in the box :( the day we scheduled a few months ago we were going to do a bunch of stuff and that was the one thing we never got to. we did the smaller SC pulley, and the 255lph fuel pump. Then when we installed the URD headers we spent so much time on that, we didn't get to it. I haven't forgotten, but I am also still working out the data logging thing. When it does record data it doesn't seem to be sampling very fast, I contacted the software company with no response.

    If it's slow, it's probably cause of the connexion speed and ECU responsiveness. You maybe reading to much channels. Reduce the number of channel you're reading simultanously.

    After choosing few (if possible) let say between 1 and 8, check if you can set priority. Setting low priority on some channels will reduce the number of data recorded. In exemple it's not a problem to read "cooler temp." in low priority and keep the speed connection for AFR and and SPARKADV.

    See thats wht i thought, but i cant seem to figure out how tomget it to only record like 4 channels. Im usng Dash Command on the ipad. It might not be the best but its all i got. Also the instrucions are very vauge on some stuff and there is no phonnumber on their website to call and ask for help.

    I may mess with it again this weekend and see how it goes, but my rule is not to install the maf calibraor till i gt this stuff figured out.

    Have you check in the:

    Vehicule OBD II settings

    minimum iddle bus setting --- set to a lower value. It maybe require a value different then 0 but the lower, the better.

    I am not sure, I think I set it at the settings recommended by the instructions. Also apparently this is a pain in the ass because I have to email the data to myself, then open it in a free trial software, then save as a csv file then export it to Excel. Grrrr. Then I get to see the data properly. Ill have to try it some time. Stupid ipad. Only reason I went this way with hardware is because I already had the Ipad.

    Just an update. Got the setup to record data and AF ratio. Hopefull it will be useable. Ill chck it out later. Now i can probably justify installing the calibrator.....when its warm out.
