I have had my 2016 4x4 Sport (automatic transmission) for two weeks now. My commute to work has a downhill part that is about a 1 mile decent with an elevation change of about 1,000 feet. On the steep portions the transmission downshifts when I brake and holds that gear revving between 2500-3000 RPM's then only up-shifts when I have slowed down below 35 mph. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal??

Down hill assist control. It's made to do that. My 2nd gen does it as well. It's just the transmission downshifting automatically after depressing the brake pedal as it detects a decline

Yep. The gf's corolla does this too. I personally can't stand it, since it is very reluctant to shift up again after a descent. And it doesn't rev match, so the down change lurches and just isn't smooth. Just another reason I prefer the 6mt.

That's right. Mine does much more smoothly now that it's broken in

    Stock and loving it
Push into neutral and then back into drive. It will shift back into the highest gear possible. It's the braking action that initiates it

Great feature. Asked about it myself a month or so back myself while breaking in blue taco.
