That's worth having the dealer check out. They should know if it's theirs. Possibly the record is missing. Your service record timing of 2010 is about right for this. Also possible that the original owner had it coated by the dealer before delivery. This is what a friend of mine did when he bought his truck back in 2003.

I wonder why all the dealerships don't know about this.

that's what I'm saying. I've talked to two warranty guys at two different dealers and neither of them knew anything of the 15-year warranty (from production date) after the coating has been applied.

thanks for the copy of the letters Joestoy, will have to take this to the dealers and see what they have to say.

Where are you located? My dealer said something similar the first time I brought it in after I bought it in 2013 until they ran the VIN and saw that it met the warranty requirements. This from a dealer that has done hundreds of frame replacements, including my 2001 two years before. The warranty on '95-'00s has expired, which was for Toyota to buy back the vehicle because frames were not available for those model years. The '01-'04s are also beginning to age out of warranty (provided corrosion protection was applied as required by the terms of the warranty extension).

There are dozens of threads on this topic here, and many stories of denied claims. At least check your service records for the required inspection/preventative maintenance. If they are still not cooperating, ask for the regional rep, or higher. If you are going to be turned down, at least get that from Toyota corporate.

the truck is originally from MA, now it's in IL. both states are part of the cold weather states on Toyota's list. the CRT was applied in Jun 12th 2011

I'm not sure if the dealer I took it to has done any frame replacements yet. I took it in to get the timing belt changed, I asked the guys when I was picking it up about the frame and they acted like I was gonna rob them. first thing I asked them about the frame and he just cut me off and was like "it's over!" so I asked, since I just purchased this truck I'm screwed out of the money I just spent purchasing it. he was like pretty much... after I brought up the 15-year warranty since the truck has been CRT'ed he was like well if there is penetration through the frame (10mm hole) then we can start the process with Toyota. he never really gave me a straight forward answer so that's why I took it to another dealer. the other dealer thinks that once the CRT has been applied, Toyota's end was completed.

thanks for the info ghs57, I was planning on going higher with it like you suggested since dealers aren't being very helpful

It would seem there can be some miscommunication on this issue at the dealers, and between us owners. You did at least get a positive response from the tech should they find a hole. But you would think based on that response the cost was coming out of his pocket. It seems the techs at my dealer have been quite thorough in their inspection or my vehicles. It's almost as if there are looking for the work. Toyota must have a pretty good reimbursement plan for the dealers when they do this work.

But, employees come and go. New people may not be as familiar with all the warranty/recall specifics, and the volume of this work probably has fallen off from the high a few years ago. The dealer used to have stacks of Tacoma frames in the back lot. I wish I had taken a picture when my '01 was done.

From his response it did seem as though the cost was coming out of the dealer. I was really surprised that he acted that way since Toyota would be paying for all the costs, not the dealer. when they did the frame inspection first before the timing belt he stated that the frame had soft spots while being struck with a ball peen hammer. with the CRT covering the rusted areas together it may not show a hole. The CRT is flaking off all over the frame so I'm sure in time the rust will produce a hole somewhere.
