My maintenance required light flashes a few times on start up. I assume it's because I'm coming up on 5,000 miles and it's time for an oil change. Once I change the oil myself, will the light go off?

    Reserected from the dead.
Push and hold in odometer reset button, turn on key while holding button in. You will see a series of parallel dashes count down, then the odometer numbers will re appear. You are all reset.

In a 2012 you will need to set the odometer to " Trip A ".
    Then Turn off the ignition.
Hold the Odometer Reset in and turn on the ignition. (do not start the engine )
Watch for the countdown on the Trip A Going from _ _ _ _ _ _ to the numbers.
    Reset.

A great resource is http://www.toyota.com/owners/ By entering in your vehicle's VIN or info, you can get a pdf version of the manual with available search fields. Just search the online manuals on toyota owners for "oil change" and you'll have most of your questions answered.

We all were new at this at one point in time, so don't be afraid to ask away.

I have a 2013 and have yet to see a light come on. Is there a way to permanently shut that off?
I will not be changing my oil evry 5k. That will get anoying very fast.

No way to permanently disable, outside of opening up the dash and removing the bulb (which is always an option). TBH, turning it off takes 10 seconds and you only have to turn it once every 5k miles. If you drive 15,000 miles per year, you'll spend about a minute of that year resetting the maintenance light.
