Spyder® - Black Smoke OEM Style Headlights

Oic light out put did suck with the halogen bulb. So I put in 50w HID's made a huge difference.

 

North Carolina law can't have covers or dark lenses on head lights tail lights or any type of cover over the license plate

 

They look really great on my blacked out truck

 

North Carolina likes to tell us how we should do everything.

 

Yes they do moving bask to south east Kentucky where I'm form soon I hate it here in NC work brought me here 18 years ago CSXT railroad now I work for a much better company better pay and get to go home

 

I wouldn't be able to live there because of that reason

I currently have these and dealing with melting around drl. The plastic around the bulb is black so very hard to see but a big problem seeing as how the plastic has beaded up and a few have come loose and rolled down into bottom of light. 6 months old bye the way. Purchased through Artzone on Amazon and so far they are telling me I'm past warranty. Any suggestions on getting drl bulbs that burn less hot if that's even an option. Just trying to figure out what's next.

Ouch. Sorry to hear. See @csjumper2003 for LED DTRL's. You'll need to equip the resistors to prevent hyper flashing but LED's don't get as hot as filament.

 

Your fogs look to be a brighter white than stock....maybe it's picture but have you done anything to them to help give a whiter output? I'd like my fogs to match the color output of my headlights, strictly for cosmetic reasons.

 

Whether or not it's illegal from state to state is only part of the problem. All of your lights (lenses included) are federally mandated safety devices. If you get into an accident and your insurance company finds out you had illegal lense coatings or non DOT lights, they *could* drop you like second gear in a riced out Civic.

 

Headlights have a projector and shroud for my HIDs as my fogs do not.

 

I installed a set of smoked Spyder projector lights on both a Tundra and a Dodge Ram. The Tundra used halogens, and the Ram had HIDs in the projectors.

The Spyders were of pretty "meh" quality in both instances, and the light at night was PATHETIC. The halogens in the Tundra were downright dangerous since the smoked lenses filtered out too much light and the friend that owned it said he couldn't see hardly anything in front of him - and this is in So Cal where we have a lot of streetlights.

The Dodge with HIDs was marginally better, but again, the smoked lens changed the 5000k HID output to a weak greenish haze that was blurrily scattered around the front of the truck. He tried it for a while, and then had me remove them several months later after being unable to see very well at night during the winter months. He lives in Nor Cal - again, a place with lots of streetlights. He was so disgusted with them he threw them in the trash rather than try and recoup his loss on eBay or something.

My friend with the Tundra heard of the HID experiment with the Dodge and elected to get rid of his smoked headlights rather than waste any more money trying to get smoked lights to work. He said he learned his lesson and would never purchase smoked lights again.

After seeing smoked headlights in action, I'll never do them - they may look sharp during the day, but the safety risk at night just flat out isn't worth it.

Good info here on the Sypder lights. Was about to pull the trigger but think i'll hold off. I'm not a fan of running an HID bulb in a non-projector housing and if I need tobe running an HID bulb to get ok light output from smoke headlights, count me out.

They do look good in the pictures above but i'm a big believer of functionality over ascetics.

 

After getting runaround by Artzone I called up Amazon who filed a report on the company and within a day Artzone offered me a full refund. I have since looked at quite a few lights and think I am going to move away from the smoke this time and get some clear lens with black housing. Just want more light output.

 

I had a set of spyders and the lenses began to melt after about a month. That was with stock bulbs. They sent me replacements and they did the exact same thing...Same thing happened on my ford with spyder halogens. With my ford I went back to stock and had them tinted slightly with a tinted 3m protectant at a local shop and they held up fantastic. And the quality of light was unnoticeable compared to without tint. Ended up doing bhlm on the taco and couldn't be happier. All though there's always the thought in the back of my mind to get that slight tint done again..

On another note.. I had tinted my heads and fogs on the taco with Lamin-X. Which is supposed to handle the heat. But they melted onto my fogs within a couple weeks, and I rarely use my fogs.. Started to melt to my headlights too before ditching them. And at the time I was running stock bulbs..

 

Just to chime in, I'll never buy another Spyder Headlight assembly for any vehicle I ever own.
Had a seriously bad experience with them for my Ford Explorer.
I'm pretty sure they just looked at some pictures of the front end of an Explorer and got there measurements that way.
I had to cut into my truck to get these to fit, and even then it wasn't perfect.
It may not be the same for Tacoma, but they'll never see my money again.
