    Hey Guys,

I am looking to improve my Tacos performance and dont know much about how to best do it or what I should look in to for off-road performance. Any advice would be great!

The 4.0 is not a bad engine (supercharged) when the AFR is correct and dialed in. It's actually scoots along well, for a pig. You can't count your truck because you're having fuel control issues.

I agree. It's definitely not, but you are leaving some performance off the table with the issues that you have if you still have them.

Your AFR is wrong though isn't it? IIRC you said there was some kind of issue not too long ago.

Oh ok that's right you are dumping in fuel. I mean… That CAN hurt performance to a degree.

What kind of dyno was it? Some of them are known to inflate the numbers and give you higher readings than what you are actually at.

Those are supposedly known to inflate numbers due to their zero resistance rollers. A loaded one like a Mustang dyno would be more ideal in giving you closer-to-true numbers.

    Sorry about the threadjack OP!

I like the gains the blower gave me. Has a real hard kick at about 3-3.2k RPM

    FTFY.

No seriously. You don't want any part of those cars. They are just a bad idea all around man. If you do want any part of those cars, prepare to burn your wallet to the ground like a McDonald's restaurant which caught a grease fire.

They have a lot of issues.

    There is a reason I switched from a 440 HP+ GTO to a Tacoma.

The biggest issues with the GTO is its an absolute pig it weights a ton. Second you cannot stuff a decent tire on it, the rear clearance is pathetic.

Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist. Everything from a sloppy rear end, which requires a huge poly insert just to rectify the huge voids the stock rear end mount bushing has, to a crap 2 piece driveshaft which is non serviceable and has no greasable zerks, to a shoddy rear end which will either implode, or self disassemble itself while driving (Ask me how I know), to freezing ignition cylinders which will either leave you with a stuck key in the ignition or not being able to put it in at all, to a HORRID suspension design, to bad transmissions and their respective mounts.

    I could go on.

There was always that problem too.

Like I said, if you want one prepare to open your wallet and keep it open to keep those lemon worth of cars rolling on the road.

Lol, the Tacoma does have it's issues but it requires heavy abuse to get it to the same level that the GTO's are at. Of course the GTO's fuel pump never failed on me for no reason like my Taco's did. Every other problem I have had to date with the Taco has been self induced, not just because of bad design or lowest bidder manufacturing.

A high end 1 piece DS for a GTO will cost you closer to $700 if you want a good one made for it. The updated ignition cylinders are just as bad as the first ones. There is a way around it which I fixed a long time ago, and to this day the ignition issue for the one I had does not plague the vehicle with the original cylinder still in use. As for everything else, it can all be remedied but it'll cost you big $$$'s in the end.

If you have the money and the downtime to own one, go for it, but as a daily driver, I would never trust one to own it again.

Slow, but for the most part, pretty reliable. A lot more than the GTSlow. Lol.
