its about that time to replace the fan clutch after reading they should be replaced on the same time schedule as when you do the timing belt and water pumps. so I was thinking about doing an electric fan mod the mod thread link but the mod link for this is dead so I couldn't see what they did there.

I saw a few complete "electric fan conversion kits" on ebay for $300-$400 and that's way too crazy expensive but there are some generic fans you can buy in the $100 range and I would just have to buy the thermostat and relays separate to do it all for around $150. by comparison the new oem fan clutch runs about $100 so I consider cost of the mod to be roughly about the same ball park as buying a new fan clutch and seeing as how this electric fan mod will give me a "small" increase in hp and mpg I thought it sounded worth doing.

I like the idea of a small increase in mpg more then any minor hp increase and im not looking for more power here so no recommendations wanted or needed for going to turbo or SC it.

so the question is, is it really smarter, better, or no difference, to go with an electric fan rather then replace the oem fan clutch?

if so, what options are out there for doing this that are the most affordable and reliable?

who has done this mod and how did it work? what did they do wrong? did they regret doing it?

I certainly don't want to do anything that marginalizes the cooling system efficiency

I do already realize that if I go electric, I need a two speed fan or a dual fan setup because the a/c needs air all the time so you have to have "some" air flowing "all the time" so there is no need to caution me about that part.

any advice, opinions, or things you think could be a problem is welcomed

is my thinking all wrong here and there are no hp or mpg savings and its better to stay with oem?

from all the threads I read about electric fan conversions it seams to be a split 50/50 on liking and disliking the mod

hmmm, 32 views and not ONE comment ?????????????????

I guess maybe that's to be taken as a sign that doing this mod isn't popular or a good idea after all

    maybe I should rethink this

I'd go back to original fan/clutch.. They pull more air, which would be more important, over the very little most likely not even noticeable hp gain from an electric.

To answer the original question, I know many people who run them in different trucks. Often they have problems especially off-road. They get real wet/muddy fuse blows. The stock method is reliable and IMO I wouldn't bother with it unless I needed more room

I just always write those comments off as wrong generation truck owner in wrong forum. most often its best to just ignore them.

many people don't create short cuts direct to the forum that fits their truck and just go to main forum page when they come to this site and so they respond to any recent posts, not even looking at the year generation the question applies to
