Hey everyone! I just picked up my very first Tacoma, which is also my first ever truck. I've been wanting a truck for about 12 years, since I started riding motorcyles so I'm glad to finally reach a place in life where I can justify the cost of owning one! It's a 2000 Prerunner with the 3.4L and 160k miles. I don't plan on putting more than 10k a year on it so it should last me quite a while. My daily drivers are split between an economy car and motorcycle so the Taco will almost purely be for "truck stuff". I decided I might as well sign up for this forum because I'm planning to do quite a bit of work to it in the next couple of months and I've found forum membership to be very valuable to DIY work on previous vehicles.

My list of work needed done:
    • Radiator (has a small leak up at the top, don't even notice the fluid level drop over 500 miles).
    • Timing belt (last done ~60k miles ago)
    • Transmission cooler (does not have one other than the standard radiator)
    • Front shocks (160k miles on them!)
    • Valve covers (a bit of leaking on the back side)
    • Stereo

The end goal is to make something reliable enough to pull/haul 1-2 bikes around the state once every couple of months starting next year. I'm expecting to remain under 2,000lbs so no serious weight at all, but if there are any other suggestions on work I should look at getting done for towing improvements I'm all ears.

    Thanks guys!

Welcome to TW. You should get another 60k from the timing belt. The 3.4 is a great engine. Post some pics.

Yeah I just figured with replacing the valve cover gaskets and radiator I might as well do the belt. You're right though, I could hold off for 2-3 years on it and use that money to replace the front shocks sooner.

Edit: And I will try to get a picture uploaded tomorrow!

Thank you! I can't wait to start pouring money into this thing! My girlfriend is less than thrilled about the upcoming garage time I'm about to have. :D
