Looking to change out my license plate lights on my 2016 Tacoma TRD sport to LED's. How do I get to the bulbs? I know it's behind the bumper but can't seem to get to it enough to turn the socket. Suggestions?

I had the same problem, I have the tow package and it's even harder. I gave up I can't figure out what to squeeze or whatever. I'll try again later

It's a twist and pull rather than a squeeze. Notes:

^^ x2 - My LED was a little longer than the OEM, so it felt a bit soft locking back in but she's been in there since November without issue, so I guess it went well.

No BRO-ness to speak of... Well, except Kbro2's
I gave up after 10 minutes of skinning knucks.... Bulbs are still on the work bench.

I also replaced the reverse lights with LED's and after unbolting the light housing on the passenger side and pulling straight back like the instrutions said.... the bottom retaining post promptly broke in half. I reinstalled changed the bulb and reinstalled the housing by securing the top retaining post and the two side bolts and it seems fine. Lights work great, i was just a little pissed that the bottom post was all plastic and broke from normal maintenance.

Don't take this personal but why do people really care what kind of bulb is in the license plate light?

I replaced all my interior bulbs and plate lights with LEDs. I prefer the bright white color over the stock dingy yellowish.

I can understand the interiors but who pays any attention to license plate lights?

They are LED from the factory on my 2015 Mustang. Much cleaner look that the dingy yellow. I will figure out how to conquer my TACO tag lights one of these days!

Purely for cosmetic IMO. The clean white. For the slight extra brightness I don't really care about. The interior extra brightness was also not a HUGE concern over the actual better look of the lights. I've done the same for our Highlander and I find that it makes the vehicles look more "premium" over the dingy yellow.

Why so judgmental? We are obviously being more considerate to our Peace Officers by making our license plates easier to read. Plus by changing bulbs over to LED, you don't force the alternator to run as much giving you as much as 5hp PER BULB! Cheapest performance mod I've ever done.

So the whole light piece comes out from the inside and then you swap the bulbs?? I got a kit off ebay with all the interiors and it says tag lights as well. Im assuming the map light bulbs are the same as the tail light bulbs since I have 4 left?
