Water + iron = rust. and within an extremely short period of time. So as long as you can prove that no water has touched the truck from the time it rolled off the assembly line until now you might have a point. More than likely....not! Glad you gave us a pic of the 2 main non treated iron parts on the truck.

    My scientific approach.

The reason why toyota does not paint the contact service on the drum and the wheel is to increase heat transfer rate from drum to wheel.

    Same goes for the exhaust.

Also, why coat a surface that will eventually peel with high temperatures?

People would the make a thread on that too.

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but this weeks been out of control. I think the mods should start PM'ing the people who start these threads and tell them to search or ask in the general 3rd gen thread and then delete the OP's thread. Instead of banning people who make smart comments in people's threads like this. This could've been asked on the "big 3rd gen thread" and various other places.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_insulation

Example of how paint can lead to a mechanical failure.

    http://www.finishing.com/419/43.shtml

Also take into account computer CPUs and their surface dissipation with a heat sink. In the CPU example, we even use a thin layer of thermal conductive paste to increase/ensure the contact between both layers.

In this case, since the rest of the drum is insulated, the area where the wheel is sitting on the drum has to be direct. Basically the wheels of our cars are a huge heat sink that cools as it spins when the vehicle is in motion.

Basically physics bro. And sorry it sounded like a dis. Just trying to educate our society.

Only a few serious answers in here for a serious I question . I would be concerned as well OP. From what people are saying it appears to be normal so there's that. Now I have to check mine for rust.

The OP probably doesn't even own a Taco. He is probably in his Mamas basement eating Cheetos hanging on to his orange colored hammer.

I heard you can run 37's on the new TRD pro with no lift. So if you do an 8" body lift you should get 40's on your stock truck. Your gas mileage may be affected slightly though. Hope I helped.
