Hopefully the judges agree when it goes to the dealership for an inspection.

Could be a lot worse...black on black or white on black. I foresee no riots being carried out over this one...this time.

That's my only concern. I couldn't find any signs of anything being tweaked but I'll still get it checked out. Only damage I could find was a few scuffs on the center plastic bumper section. Another reason to be glad I traded my Lexus for the Tacoma, that accident would have been $5k in that thing. I love this truck.

Ha, that's almost what I titled the thread.

Nice...I did the same thing two weeks ago. I traded in my GS for my Tacoma. I have no regrets...LOL!

That's not a hard hit. No chance of frame damage. Looks like the hitch caused most of the damage to the plastic parts

From what I can see it all looks good but it wasn't just plastic on her car, the main metal bumper behind the plastic bumper got pushed in about 8 inches from my hitch. I'm hoping you're right gsxxr. :fingerscrossed:

Yes but they are designed to crush to absorb the energy from the impact.

The truck needs to be checked out for sure. But I can't really picture have frame damage. If it does from that little hit I'm going to consider selling my truck. I mean that also.

I tried searching but I suck at it. IIRC it was a new blue 3rd gen and another one like said above that were lower speed impacts to the rear and the frames were bent

The picture I posted of the limited that hit something I can understand a bent frame.

But taking a hit in the hitch from a small car low speed impact is concerning.

I'll definitely update once I get it inspected (still waiting on her insurance company). I'm not assuming there is any frame damage at this point (no evidence of any), just keeping my fingers crossed that it's as minor as it looks.

    Just for shits and grins...

Federal law only requires bumpers to withstand crashes of 1.5 or 2.5 MPH depending on test used. For car on car (of any color) 2.5 is the number I think you'd wanna use.

The basic requirement is that only certain damage is allowable like cracked lense covers on license plate lamps at or less than 2.5 MPH. Beyond 2.5 MPH is a different game where damage moves to a lower priority. The laws intent in about saving $.

Of course weight of the vehicle comes into play...a 4,000 car/truck will require a different bumper to meet the requirement than a 3,000 pound car (all tested in neutral, brakes off, wheels pointed straight, correct tire inflation ect...in other words perfect conditions to mitigate damage).

Finally got her inspected. Their insurance wouldn't approve a frame inspection until I agreed to have the repair work done at their recommended shop so I paid to get it checked. No issues at all with the frame but the repair cost which included replacing the center plastic bumper section (had a small scratch) and fixing the small (I hadn't even noticed them) scratches on the driver side bumper section came out to just over a grand.

Nice...I enjoy the Tacoma more than I did the GS. It's more practical...LOL!
