Advice on these two lift kits.

So I have had my 2013 dcsb 4x4 for over 2 months now. Have been researching lifts since I bought it. There seems to be no simple way to lift a Tacoma. I have narrowed down and what I am looking for is between the two following kits.

A heavy duty OME kit with 886 coils, 90000 firm shocks, LR UCA's, and a new Dakar leaf pack. $1684.99 w/free shipping not including labor.

I would like this one because I do plan on installing a plate bumper and a winch plus other options like a bed rack or shell. And I still want it to be a truck so I can haul house hold items. I would like to run 33" tires but would settle on 32"s if needed.

The other option I am thinking about going with is an Icon stage 4 kit with tubular control arms. $3000ish depending on where I buy it from.

Money isn't an issue for the lift. But I have zero need for a long travel suspension. All I really plan on is running trails, camping, fishing, hunting, towing and maybe traveling in some canyons in Northern AZ from time to time. Which lift is going to be more beneficial for these tasks? I would rather do it once and be done with it. I don't really want to get a lift only to spend another 2000 bucks upgrading it again. To me that is money better spent elsewhere.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated and very helpful.

 

My need for suspension is pretty much the same as yours (bumper/winch/canopy/trail use/hauling camping supplies/towing utility trailer/no long travel) and I just ordered the OME kit you are looking at from Headstrong two days ago. I did a ton of reading before ordering and feel confident the OME will give me what I want for this application. OME is well respected for their quaility products. While King makes an excellent product, and would work for what you are doing, it is desigened for a harsher use application that it does not look like you need. Good luck with your decision.

I'm running all of that except the UCA's and dakars, with ARB and winch(add 250 pounds to the front end)...and im clearing 285's no problem with wheels at 4.5" BS, i will probably go to 295 for my next tire

OP,

1) How soon/long is the plan for bumper and winch? Ride will be harsh til you get those items with 886 coils.

2) I HIGHLY recommend adding the

$81 D29XL Leaf Spring

D29XL to the Dakar pack and run 6+2 for the added weight of a shell/rack.

Don't forget new brake lines (especially in the rear) and new bump stops (preferably all around)

How much do you want to trim? Running the full OME kit you mentioned (minus 886's for now) and 285/75/16's and I had to remove the mudflaps, trim plastic where they mount, cab mount chop and beat the pinch weld in with a BFH

 

Icon all day any day. I have the 2.5 non reservoirs front, UCAs, 2.0 non resi rears, and OME Dakar springs. Around 3 inches of lift running 32" Duratracs. Couldn't be happier with the ride.

I don't off-road at all except for a camping trip once a year. This is my daily driver and it now rides better than it did stock in my opinion.

Look into 255 size tires. You won't get that wide stance, but you'll do less trimming - and they're true 33s.

Edit: 255 is the width, 255/85/16 and 255/80/17 are 33s.

If you are running OME shocks you do not need extended brake lines. The shocks will limit out before you overextend the lines. I bought extended lines and didn't bother installing them with my lift. They're still in my tool box.

If your truck will be empty most of the time I don't think you need the extra leaf with the Dakars. Even with the canopy/camper shell. I think you'd be taking on a harsher ride unnecessarily. The standard Dakar pack can handle loads of weight. Just my .02

 

True. Not sure if the OP is going with a rear bumper though. Assumed eventually since he's running one up front.

Glad I, personally, did them when it was all apart. Going to make this shackle flip and 12" shock swap coming up (month or so) easier.

 

If money isn't a big deal I agree....Install airbags for the extra load cap when you need it

 

This is about 1000 lbs loaded on standard Dakars and they settled maybe an inch. I don't have airbags but I do have Timbren bumpstops.
