Whatever I can get away with
    Why 2/3?!
At the risk of sounding like an idiot, are you unable to remove all of the sections of the tonneau cover?!

    Yes and no.

If you want to actually remove the cover you can. Just remove the long lock screw from the first panel (near the cab), and you can fold the cover up and lift it off.

If you're not removing the cover, there is no way to open the first panel (near the cab) by itself because its locked into place with a screw. Plus when you open the cover, the other two panels (middle and tailgate panel) stack on top of the first panel. So you only have access to 2/3 of the bed if you carrying something tall.

From what I've seen apparently the old version of the factory cover you were able to unlock the cab portion with a key, and flip the front section (near the cab) up by itself. But that changed with this model. I guess the bean counters at Toyota shut that down, especially since I only got one tailgate key, but a trip to home depot fixed that.

I honestly did not know that? That's a bummer. I had a couple of Avalanches that had a similar config. but you could pull all 3 sections off and have an open bed. Thanks for the explanation!
