You don't like moving ? Next to the camaraderie, it's the one thing I miss most about the USAF. Between PCS moves and moving from off-base housing to military housing, dorms to apartments, military housing to off-base housing, I moved 29 times in 23 years. PCS moves alone, 11.

Good luck on your new assignment and thanks for serving. Travis is a pretty cool assignment, much better than some of the ones I had. Enjoy!

Thanks again guys, you've been the primary source of info so far.

The more we look the more we like Benicia. Mapquest shows it about an hour commute. That accurate? We drive an hour right now and it sucks. Granted it's only 12 miles so it could be that it's extremely slow and painful. Might be better if you're actually moving.

Also any parts of Fairfield to stay away from? Just from searching on the interwebz, homes go from nice to sketchy but hard to narrow it down to specific areas.

I just mapped it from my house (near downtown) to the base and it is 30 minutes. If you have normal commute hours, it will always be a reverse commute and should be close to that amount of time.

After we sold our last house, we planned to:
    1. Move to Benicia
    2. Rent for a year
    3. Buy a place if we liked it
We were worried about the rising prices, and liked Benicia so much, that we jumped straight to step 3 and are really happy with that decision.
