Can't do it next week, work. Thus I am going up to the mountain this weekend. I hear the wild flowers are blooming and the moon should be cool. Got my scope and cameras packed. Cacti Flowers are rad.

Programming them is actually fairly easy once you get the hang of it. There are certain settings like "Channel Mode...Frequency Mode" that is still a bit confusing for me? Other than that, if you don't have a HAM license... There are some good utubevids, but even then. If you are going to Anza, I will try to help you program it/them. I never attempted SIMPLEX programming/TXing so that would be kind of cool to do and/or figure out. Then again, I have the exact and/or similar unit... LOL! Anyways, when it comes down to it, they really are a nice radio. I can hit the HB repeater from La Puente without ANY issues. But keep in mind, that is a radio to repeater!!! Radio-to-Radio, with them outputting approx 3-5W or there abouts, you will get a few miles at best... line-of-sight! Start adding trees/buildings/etc and that is significanly reduced!!!

@Z50king PLEASE, I HIGHLY advise to change out the stock rubber duckies... THEY SUCK!!! BAADDD!!! Not just because they're "cheap" Baofeng's or anything like that... Yaesu duckies SUCK also! Pretty much any stock rubber duckie and couldn't really tell you why? You would THINK that the antenna is "tuned", so-to-speak, to the radio for max efficiency of TX/RX? Dude, I could go on about this for quite some time, anyways, just know that and you can get fairly cheap aftermarket antennas for better TX/RX of your radio. I have lots of different radios, mainly for different freq band. I have the Yaesu VX-5R as a certain tri-bander and a VX-6R as a certain tri-bander. I have these tri-banders as HT's for my own personal reasons. I also have a Yaesu FT-8900R that has 4-band capability, but haven't used it yet. Anyways, sorry for a 2nd long post, I like talking about radios and like to learn more about them when given the chance to mess with my radios. I also don't mind teaching others with what I know and just pass on the information.

    Happy Wheel'n and

While we're out at Anza you should pick @WileECoyote 's head, he knows a lot more about hams and cbs than anyone I've ever met or talked to before. He really knows his stuff!

You can't use an 11m CB freq antenna for 2m, 70çm, or even 10m freq band channels. It might work but NOT very well. How I always understood it was the receive is NOT the issue regarding a "mismatch freq antenna" but the TX aspect of it! I've been studying antenna design recently and still have lots to learn. BTW, they do have\make a Firestik type looking antenna for 2m so you MUST make SURE if you buy it on-line that it is for CB freq or the 2m HAM freq depending on what you are connecting it to???!!!

LB disp is 153.950 and Downey disp is 154.205 if you ever care to listen to fire disp? Other than that, I'll help you with what I can and know.

I'm still down if you want me to get you somewhat setup with your cb that you will be getting?

BTW, thank you for the complement! Hope I am not coming\rubbing off as a "know-it-all"? I just don't mind teaching people with what I know.
