I wanna go the cheap route, and preferably not too permanent but if it is that fine. I don't really have plans of getting rid of the Mudrunner. As far as intent I just want a basic CB setup for when I'm out wheeling with a group. I don't really have any interest in a HAM. I had been looking at the Uniden Pro 510/520xl because I can substitute my ashtray for it and not lose any storage space which I like. For the antenna I was thinking either using the T4R drifter mount or if possible maybe putting it where my radio antenna was since I don't have one and have no interest in getting one. Other than this I have no clue lol
The thing I'm not missing about college
Well now I know who I'm going to if I ever need sliders lol

Hey, so what channels do you guys use these BaoFangs on? None of them are legal at these wattages.... Maybe in the desert it doesn't matter for line of sight? Is there anyone out there monitoring MURS or business channels?

I don't plan to use them except for emergency communication, but what are you guys doing with them?

Hi mr bigbarlo and Z50king :). In the short time I was in California I used to read about the things to do and I read about the flowers at Death Valley that only happen, in February I think, once a year. I didn't know if I would ever make it but it's definitely on my bucket list! It was the wrong time of year when I was there but at the time I still couldn't find any business that would be like a guide to take someone kinda like sight seeing. Do you have to know where to go on your own or are there places who will take you?

Is this what you are going to see?
Is it a day trip to a place like this?

Please take lots of pictures !

Yaesu FT-1900R w/ 2m/70cm Comet SBB-224 antenna, Cobra 19 DX IV w/ 4ft Francis CB24 Hot Rod antenna, Uniden Bearcat BC355N 800Mhz mobile scanner (analog), an external BNC mount routed to inside the cab for a handheld fire/police scanner or HAM HT's, Rancho RS5000 front struts and rear shocks, 6in KC Daylighter (pencil beam), 15x7 Black Rock Wheels Series 942, 31x10.50R15 Firestone Destination AT, fog lights, COBRA antenna hood mount (this is used to mount the GoPro on to)
Substituting the ashtray for my CB is what I did myself and it required some custom mod work but the CB fit perfectly in that spot. Some people will use the existing radio antenna "location", if you will, for the CB antenna to go in to. When it comes to the CB antenna though, they're typically " rigid" and you would want bending capability for the occasional snag of tree branches and what not! So I don't know or think a spring would be doable at that location or even look good? Either way, there are many different routes and setups you can take. Other than that, a CB is just plug and play. Some, like mine, have a PA port, so I connected a "horn" to it as well! I plan on soldering together a little circuit to "boost" \amplify the output to the horn so it is a little louder because it is "fixed level output" for the PA feature! Anyways, if you go or don't go, I will post some pictures of how I did it if you want me to? Finally, if all you are really going to use it for when you go wheeling, then a magmount might be the way to go? I am NOT a fan of magmounts, but have nothing against them when using for quick situations either. I just don't care\trust magmounts while driving freeway speeds. But since offroading is, from my own limited experiences, slow speed, then a magmount isn't that bad of a setup situation in this case. Anyways...

BTW, I was looking at those same Uniden models for a co-worker a while back. Something else that is a "nice to have" is the weatherman channels. Just food for thought.
