I have been thinking about debadging my 2005 irp prerunner but am afradi to see if the paint is terribly faded underneath. I see alot on this color in particular that the fender flares fade to orange and other general fading. Anyone out there have experience with faded paint and debadging on irp or any other color in general?

If you have kept the paint polished, waxed, and garaged for most of its life then you might have a chance.

But I think most Tacoma owners don't baby their trucks like this.

    Keep the badges on.

Be careful...my fender flares were faded enough with the clear coat coming off that I bit the bullet and replaced them. My IRP is faded from not having a garage in CO then OK. Trust me, she's faded enough that you'll most likely be able to tell when you're right up on it.

From what I have seen and experienced, on the 2nd gens, the SSM seems to hold up better than other colors. I had a 2005 SSM DCLB Prerunner and when DCLB 4X4 in BSP and the paint is noticeably worse. I just repainted the hood due to paint chipping off to bare metal and the clearcoat being non-existent in a couple of spots. Admittedly, I don't know how the paint on the one I have now was taken care of, but I have yet to see a SSM that looked bad from fading/peeling. (of course now everyone on TW with a SSM and peeling paint will now post pics to prove me wrong) :D

I debadged my 2005 Tacoma with no problems. I had the guys that were detailing my truck do it. The previous owner of my truck lived in Reno and Spokane and he must have parked it outside because the trim and the paint were faded. I didn't even know my black paint job has quite a bit of green glitter in it till after I got it debadged and detailed. Anyhow my guess is you'll be fine.

Thank you all for your replies. It seems some people get away with it after some
Number of years. I had a feeling mine was too faded and you all confirmed it thanks for the quick replies.
