So yesterday my 9 year old kid was in my truck playing with fob and pressing door locks. He somehow pressed multiple buttons and make it so that drivers door would not close. It seemed that door latch was turned so that it would not allow door to close. After screwing around with it for 30 mins and not being able to fix it I pushed door look button and pushed down door open sensor. When I released door sensor truck alarm went off and when pushed off on fob I was able to close door like normal....I have never seen this before and don't know what happened??????

I managed to do something similar with my second gen. There is this medal latch when the door is locked that got engaged somehow. When I went to close my door, BAM! That medal to medal sound is something that makes me cringe, but it took me forever to figure out that it was engaged. The fob would allow me to unlock and lock the door, but it still wouldn't close. I had to manually flip it back. Ever since then, I haven't had an issue.

Yep - need to manually reopen the striker lock. May have to lift up on the handle while you do it.

Maybe you bought the limited edition unibody 3rd gen and are experiencing cab flex?

Kidding, I would phone the dealership and make them aware of this problem. The more people that bring issues to Toyota's attention the more likely they are to issue a software fix to prevent future mishaps. They should simply be able to disable such a thing from happening again (in theory) since its all controlled by one of the 1000 computers on these trucks.

Just a thought... Not saying I'm right or wrong, but worth the call in my opinion. I'm glad you managed to get your door closed tho!

Maybe you could recount your steps for the fix in a bit more detail for other members that may encounter this same problem?

I think maybe he pushed lock button with door open and then metal door latch would not rotate when I pushed unlock...I tried to manually rotate latch with screwdriver but it wouldn't rotate over for me. I guess when the alarm went off it reset door lock......
    The steps I preformed were:
    1. Pushed door lock button on door rest
    2. Held down door closed button on inside of door ham with my finger. This makes computer think door is closed and truck is secure.
    3. With I took finger off door sensor alarm went off....computer thought there was an illegal entry as unlock button was not initiated and sounded alarm.
    4. After turning off alarm door closed as normal.

He closed striker by pushing door lock with door being open ?
So door has to be closed to open striker.....that would explain why I wasn't able to open striker....

I had an issue yesterday with the rear door taking two pulls to open. Turned out to be something with the locking mechanism. I tried resetting the locks open and close and the door fixed itself.

Most vehicles the striker is pretty hard to latch, so not sure how the little guy pulled that off. If it happens again with the door open just pull the handle and it should unlatch the striker. However if it doesn't you might have to put an object behind it and pull the handle to release
