Hey guys i have a 2016 Tacoma sr that does not have a hitch on it. I am putting a hitch on I but me and my dealer cannot find a wire harness for it. I can buy the OEM 4 pin and 7 pin plug but we are both stumped about the wire harness that plugs into the back of it. If someone could help that would be great thank you.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld Tacoma1692.

There are a few threads about this on the forum, but from what I know there is no connector to plug into. The towing harness option is factory installed from the front of the cab to the rear. If you ordered your Taco without it; then you would have a different harness. You will have to splice into the wiring harness in order to connect your towing equipment.

Take it to an RV dealer. I had a 02, same situation, they wired it all up with 4 and 7 pin connectors, and installed a brake controller.
That was Sutton RV, Eugene Oregon. But any pro shop should be capable.
    Just an option.

You probably already know this but when adding a hitch to a Tacoma without the tow package provides a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, according to Toyota's specs. That's almost half the capacity of one with the tow package. Just something to be aware of if you plan to tow something big.

interested in some info from this thread...

since you didnt order tow package, your vehicle is supposedly half as capable at towing. (3500 vs 6800)

after you figure out an aftermarket tow package set up, can you please report back with whether or not you have difficulty towing things in the 6,000lbs range??

    please and thank you!!

'Difficulty' may not be the issue. Most will never add what comes on the tow package, as it's too extensive. Trans cooler, PS cooler, high output alternator, etc. etc.

So its the durability of the tow vehicle that will be in question if you chose to overload it. I wouldn't do it.

I added a hitch to my 5 lug so I could use a bike rack, use a bed extender to support my yaks. No wiring needed for that of course.

I went ahead and did the wiring, just in case I found a need to pull a small load sometime. Small flats boats, canoe trailers, small utility trailers. Things under 2500 loaded.

The oil cooler and the trans cooler are the biggest things. Might not have an issue over occasional light towing, but you will reduce life of the engine/trans by hauling near max loads on a frequent basis

I was looking at the splice kit, I was hoping there was a harness that would plug and play, I have some empty plugs under my truck thats why I thought they had something. I am only towing at the most a light box trailer, I dirt bike ride with friends so I need more room than just the bed
