Question for the wiring gurus / My AUX Fuseblock build

    Background: I have Rigid Dually flood lights in my fog light holes and they are wired into the factory fog light wiring (plus the fog light anytime mod) and work with factory switch/button anytime the key is on. I also have a set of Rigid spot lights on ditch light brackets that are hard wired independently and work any time I hit the switch key on or not.

    Goal: I would like for when I hit my spot light switch, both my spots and fogs come on at the same time with just the one switch. On the other hand, if not using the spots, I still want to be able to use the fog lights by themselves anytime like they are now. I am in the process of gathering everything for an aux fuse block install and want to do this at the same time. I was thinking either with a relay or some jumper wire from one to the other so that the spots can power the fogs but not the other way around. Any suggestions?

    There are a few ways of doing this, but the easiest would be to power all 4 lights from the factory fog light switch since you modified them to use at any time.

    You can then switch the ground (or relay, depending on how you're set up now ) on the spot lights to cut them on/off as desired.

    This way, depending on the position of your spot light switch, you ether get 2 or 4 lights. Factory fog switch will cut off power to all lights.

    Not exactly what you asked, but does the same thing and would require minor wiring modification to what you currently have.

    Yes or no?

    Definitely a good idea and I don't really care how it work so long as it works. Do you think the factory fog light switch will handle all 4 at a time? Should I get a new switch?

    Have both sets of lights on separate relays (one for ditch lights and one for fogs). Use a DPST or DPDT (double poll single or double throw) switch for the ditch & fog. One poll goes to ditch and second goes to fogs.
    Make sure the poll for the figs is switching the relay the same way as the factory fogs (ground or positive switch and preferably in same circuit).
    You could get fancy with diodes, but shouldn't need to.

    If you are concerned about the capacity of the switch (which i don't know the rating), the proper thing to do would be to add a relay. The switch would trigger the relay (most 12v automotive relays are rated to 30A, which is plenty for your lights). I don't know if the factory circuit has one already, but I'm sure someone else can chime in and answer.

    ^This, DPDT switch would also work great! Many ways to accomplish this, as you can see.

    seperate relays and the spot light to ground both relays or use a diode on the spot light relay to make sure that if you turn on your fogs only the spot lights don't come on

    Ok, so I have a rough schematic drawn out. Does it look like I have the right idea? The way I have it in my mind is if I have the switch for the spots left alone all 4 will come on but if I hit it, they will stay off from no ground? Yes, No, Maybe?

    This is a good idea, which will minimize hacking up the factory harness. leave the factory circuit as is, add one relay as follows:

    pin 30: (+) from battery, fused
    pin 85: (-) switch in cab to control light
    pin 86: (+) tapped from factory fog light circuit
    pint 87: (+) to new "spot" light

    This will only energize the relay when the factory fog lights have power AND the in cab switch is closed to ground.

    So I got a few of pieces for my AUX fuse block and started to build a mounting plate. Still have some bending and fitting before it gets bolted in. Also still have to decide where I want to mount the components as I want to leave room to mount my relays too.

    Ok, here you go. Obviously it is not to scale and measurements are pretty close but not exact. You will have to do some fine trimming here and there maybe. I also still plan to do some bending on the left side to be able to mount it. The metal I used is just a thin gauge 10X14 "keep out" sign from home depot for $2. If it proves to be too flimsy when mounted I will step up to something thicker but it looks like it will work for now.

    Really interested on how you are going to mount the fuse box and wire it in. I already have a blue sea fuse block but I'm not 100% sure how to wire it in and add relays for the lights and switches.

    Looks good so far!

    I made a little progress on my AUX fuse block this weekend. I have everything done minus the wiring and mounting of the components. I am not exactly sure how I want it, any insight?

    If I mount it like this, I think it will be a little cleaner but the wiring could get tight on the side that bolts to the body.

    If I do it this way it leaves more room and the wiring will be easier. Also leaves room to mount relays at the top.
