    Hello Everyone,

I am new here and just picked up my 2016 Limited MGM lasts week. I really like the truck and thanks to this forum have learned to check the U-Bolts and Trans Fluid. There is something that is bothering me though, I feel like my brake pedal sticks at the top in the first 1/4 inch of travel. It happens upon start up, and randomly while driving. I lubed all the connection points, and was hoping it would stop after a few hundred miles. There is also maybe 3/16 inches of travel side to side in the pedal. I have never driven a vehicle that had this "hitch" in the pedal and I speculate the pedal is getting caught up in the side to side play, then breaking free...maybe some shims are needed? Is this normal with new Tacomas or have the dealer check it? I used the search but nothing about the 2016s.

Thanks and nice to be part of this ownership community!

Call your dealer and Toyota and tell them you have a problem with your brake pedal. They'll want to look at your truck yesterday.

Thanks forum members! From posting two hours ago to sitting at the dealership waiting for diagnosis. I called and they asked if I could be there in 20 mins. We'll see what they say..."I have never heard of that problem"

All the other stuff going on with the Gen III, I can hear Toyota "that's normal". Hope you get it worked out.

I'm awaiting your answer. I picked up a new 2016 Tacoma about three weeks ago (traded in a 2009) and noticed the same problem. With some warmer weather & a little time it hasn't worked itself out.
    It is very annoying.

Yes, its super annoying once you notice it you will notice it every time you brake. Dealer said "Working within specs and to Toyota design". Explanation was I was feeling brake light switch release upon applying the brake. I checked another Tacoma in the showroom and it had the same issue. Not fully satisfied but didn't expect much from the dealer. Seems like a poor design. Maybe more owners are having a problem and there will be another resolution.

I'll make an appointment this week at my dealer & see if I get the "that's normal" explanation.

Visited my dealer today. They did feel the pedal sticking but it had the same operation as another in stock Tacoma Sport. "all works as it should and had in stock white Tacoma which pedal feels the same as this."
They also tested another, not sure if it was a off road, but he said that one had a different actuator. I guess that qualifies as "Normal".

Thanks for the update. I guess we are in the same boat on this one. I still speculate if the side to side slack was taken out of the pedal, the popping feel upon initial application would cease.

OP, does the "pop" kinda feel like a very gentle (and short) ABS type vibe? Please try and describe...
I'm not asking because I think it's an ABS problem. I've got a clunk feel in my brake pedal and there have been other discussions on TW similar to this.
If you have a chance, could you try the brakes with the ignition in the "run" position but the engine off? If the feel is the same, then I agree you've probably got a mechanical linkage problem.
But if it isn't there with the engine off... I think this just may be a quirk WRT the booster.
What stood out about your post were the words

To any who may know, what kind of brake booster does a limited have (electric, as in my OR, or vacuum)?

I'm not a mechanic and I may be waaay off here..

    From another thread..

As it turns out, the headlights dim when you press the brake pedal too (I'm not being sarcastic, I tried it and it's true).
