LOL, I did the EXACT same thing. Had an 09 Tacoma Sport. Traded it for a 12 Wrangler. Unfortunately, that Wrangler was wrought with problems. Had to unload it before the 36k kicked in. Traded that for a BMW 328i. Great car, but expensive to maintain out of warranty and I really missed having a truck. So, here I am with a 16. No problems yet, knock on wood.

You might not give a care about fuel mileage but the tightening federal standards do. Unless there's a change of fuel standard requirements this is how it's going to be for new vehicles until everything is electric. Them I'm sure they'll find a way to screw those up as well.

This may come across as really conspiracy theory sounding but a lot of metropolitan areas area trying to improve public transportation in a way that will eventually eliminate cars. Part of the plan is also to make using personal vehicles miserable. In LA, they're adding paid lanes to already congested freeways which only makes it more frustrating to be stuck in traffic.

Get a lawyer and file for Lemon Law if it's actually as bad as you say, you probably won't have an issue.

OP, it sucks that you're having these issues. I reckon there is something to be said about buying the first model year of a new design. They are often rampant with issues that are later corrected. Best of luck to you, and I hope you don't find any more issues.

I took the Taco and some lemons back to the dealer. More problems have show up.

Hill assist has stopped working. Truck roll backwards several feet, brake pump cycles but truck keeps rolling backwards while in drive.

Locking differential was difficult to lock, then it was stuck on until I finally goosed the throttle after switching to 2H. Now it won't engage.

Center console was rattling, tech missed the holes for the clips, broke a few too.

Left rear door has a gap, whistles and appears to leak.

Dogtracks badly, one Duratrac wrecked. The original tires with about 1200 miles show same problem. Dealer confirmed that they replaced a tire before they sold it.

Front axel made a loud popping sound, steering became smooth. My gas mileage improve to nearly 14mpg

Strange marks on frame, about where a frame rack would clamp up.

Hideous welds on passenger side cab mounts, joining plates and cross member

Paint flaking off welds on frame.

Grind marks and a crack showing.

Poor paint coverage inside door frame

Bed is bumping cab when on uneven terrian.

Seat air bags are dated October 29th. Dealer moved car onto lot November 5th.

One salesman said they should have disclosed the accident. The sales manager denies that it was in an accident. He went as far as saying yhat it was a slow selling product and that two months sitting on the lot is typical.

Getting a lawyer, filing complaint with California State Attorney, calling Toyota to request EPR data.

The driveline needed grease but that's it... don't mind that.

Nope, tow-trucks. Have a 2006 xterra with 200 miles, never been towed. Never needed warranty work and never left me on the side of the road.

Taco-aide (the lemon flavored vegan truck) has been towed twice, stranded me in two snowstorms and had more wrench wielding "experts" in two months and 2,800 miles than the xterra. Guess I should have fixed the CEL situation and get my smog cert....

Btw, how much balance weight does it take to keep the Taco-aide from shaking apart the driveshaft?

Is this the first time he said the truck was wrecked before he bought it? I've been following his story but have not heard that yet

Yeah it went from "selling my truck because the brakes locked up" on craigslist with a fake picture, to now a big long list of problems related to a possible prior accident. Sometimes these things just dont add up.

I borrowed this from 3dBdown post on another thread, I cant take credit for these statistics:

Except the stats just don't show that to be solid reasoning. Two sources --problems per 100 cars. Same basic results with a couple of years being slightly different. 1st year of 1st gen is among the most reliable as is the 1st year of 2nd gen--definitely way better than some later years. 3rd gen --too soon to tell

You would need to wait ~8 years to get a "more" reliable 2nd gen than 1st year.

1st gens are a wash. Pretty dang reliable all around, but later years did trend toward slightly more problems than early years.

Easily worth the risk getting a 1st year though--based on historical statistics/facts. No real reason to wait.
