That is the enduring question; possible corporate/regional issue. Also there may be some pressure to collect sales taxes by some states?. Who knows. I treat it as a business issue with Toyota; if they want to deny applications through Toby, eventually, so be it.

My best guess is that Toby is employed by Lexus, who have their own regions compared with Toyota regions, and Lexus simply isn't in the cross hairs...of course Toyota Financial who sells the VSP covers Lexus too.

Your choice whether to go with him or not; for you his price on an 8/125 is awfully appealing. You can check the Rav4 forum for more posts on the subject. http://www.rav4world.com/forums/123-4-4-general/ has a 'sticky' to keep it up front. Research away!!

For my part I've always had some expense in 8 years justifying these costs, so it's a no-brainer. On my 6th toyota too. Needless to say, I have great trust in this guy. Another link of his history... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/54527-lexus-platinum-warranty-zero-deductible/

I was in getting an oil change/tire rotation (free) yesterday at Legends Toyota. That's where I bought my 2014 DCSB 4x4 TRD Sport. Just for giggles (although I really want to get one) I met with one of the finance guys for a quote on an extended warranty.

He started at almost $2200.00 for the 8/100,000 miles. In just a few minutes he was down to just over $1200.00 after he saw I was not buying his BS. This was a Platinum.

Money is tight for me so I want to get the best deal I can. May try the link post in this thread.

When purchasing extended warranty thru Toyota post vehicle purchase, do they tack on the cost to the vehicle or is it billed outside of your monthly truck payments?

I believe you must pay for the warranty out of pocket if you purchase it after you've already financed/bought the vehicle.

For what it's worth, I have no problem with the idea of having an extended warranty on my vehicles. I have the Platinum coverage on my PreRunner, and its paid for itself on multiple occasions. The headlights have been replaced twice, and out of pocket that would have cost me over double what I paid for my extended warranty out of pocket.

Be careful in the southeast. The Moran family who owns the distributorship sells their own ESCs called Fidelity. Not a Toyota Care ESC. They do not cover all of the things the real Toyota ESC covers, They also do their own financing other than TFS, The last time I bought an ESC , it was from Troy in Mass. and Jerry at MidWest Toyota. Both less than $800.

I won't buy them from a dealer at over $1000 anymore as I only buy insurance to avoid catastrophe not inconvenience.

A rare $2000 repair bill falls under inconvenience rather than catastrophe. That said, if the ESC is less than $1000 for 7/75 I would consider it for resale purposes. No way I will put even 5000 miles a year on a truck. Now if this were a GM Canyon........

So I'm located in SE Toyota land but will be purchasing my truck out of state (Midwest) and they offer the legitimate Toyota warranties. How will that work if I'm getting it serviced in Florida? Will they honor it? I called around local dealerships I Florida, looking for the 8yr/125k warranties, and two dealerships said they can't even sell that in FL. I know FL has the SE Toyota regulations or whatever. Should I go for the one in the Midwest in order to ensure the "good" extended year warranty?? Anyone know?

If you buy a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge truck, an extended warrentee is money well spent. On a Tacoma, your just pissing away your money.

I just bought a 2016 TRD Sport Access Cab 2 wheel drive. The dealer offered me the 8 year warranty for $885. I have a couple of days to decide. I financed under $15k for 42 month so adding the extended warranty only adds a hair over $20 a month. Initially I told them I have serviced all of my vehicles for over 40 years and maybe once used the basic warranty (that was a Chrysler product in the 1980's-SHOCKER). I also told them the reason I bought my 4th Tacoma is because I do expect it to last over 10 years or 200k miles without any major issues. I am really torn on this decision. I plan on retiring in 43 months thus the 42 month loan. It would be nice to get to age 65 (I am 57 now) and not spend any major $$ on repairs. I think my concern is the amount of electronics on the truck along with the unpredictable long term reliability of the electronically altered Atkinson cycle engine controlled by the computer timing of the valve train. Now I have to part with my reliable 2008 Prerunner Double V6 SR5 with only 60k miles. It should last someone many many more miles. I will say that the new Taco rides and feels more like my 2014 F150 than my previous Tacos. The new Taco has a much firmer ride and much better seats than the 1st and 2nd gens. Extremely happy with my triuck and the deal. Actual selling price was $31250 with shipping.

I had actually entertained buying an SR5 Access V6 2 or 4 wheel drive as they are more readily available. I posed a question to several dealers to help make the decision. Can I install a TRD bright grill in an SR5. Not one dealer could answer the question with all their body shop managers. I can buy the TRD wheels off ebay or craigslist and the grills are also showing up on ebay. I was going to spend near $30k on an SR5 V6 Access 2 wheel drive. By the time I added the grill and wheels I was spending more than I paid for the TRD. In my opinion the new SR and SR5 grills look cheap with the overwhelming amount of black plastic. I am sure the aftermarket guys are already working on chrome overlays to fix this. I do like the rear chrome bumpers much better than the TRD painted ones. That may be on my list of add ons down the road. First 2 priorities are chrome tube steps and vent visors. I have yet to see a bug shield and not sure I will put one on this truck. 99% of my driving is local in town anyway. I was surprised on fuel consumption. My drive home was 200 miles. Half was up and down between 40 and 55 mph. Half was 70 mph. The gauge was above 1/2 when I got home. After driving 20 miles in town the computer says 214 miles to empty. It only has a 21 gallon tank. Appears to be awesome mpg. Will know when I finally fill the tank and check it.

As long as the $885. offer is for an official Vehicle Service Plan BY TOYOTA, this is a good deal. Alot are selling aftermarket plans which are a crap shoot.
Yes you're gambling that in 8 years you'll have at least one problem. But a 'problem' is usually $500.00 or more. Too, may be peace of mind, including roadside assistance and alternate transport if you get stuck somewhere with a problem.
So; seriously consider if it's a VSP from Toyota; Otherwise probably should pass.....

If I purchased a 3rd gen and could pick up a Toyota ESC for a good price, I would do that. This isn't a knock on the 3rd gens - any new platform could experience issues the manufacturer hadn't anticipated, problems which will only show up when you have thousands of trucks which have logged hundreds of thousands of real-world miles.

A couple relevant examples - I had a 94 Toyota v6 with the head gasket issue (not coincidentally also the last year of that engine) which only showed up after I'd hit 80k+. Fortunately the dealer still applied the TSB to my problem and fixed it for me. I also had the first year of the Infiniti G35, which had oil seals on the valve cover around the spark plugs which failed at 140k or so and cost me $1k to fix.

(Yes, really, oil seals around the spark plugs. The plugs were in the middle of the head so each valve cover had a hole in it for 3 plugs to pass through it. Each of those holes had an integrated seal.)

My girlfriend is about to take delivery of her 2016 TRD Off-road Taco tomorrow and the dealer offered her a $2,395 7yr/125,000 mile Platinum warranty. I told him we will think about it and let him know. He said that, even though you can add it on any time during the 3/36, the vehicle would have to undergo a thorough inspection and the cost would be substantially higher. I felt my inner BS flag go on alert. Anyone care to verify this?

    Your BS Flag is correct.

You can buy the Toyota Platinum warranty anytime during the 3-year/36K mile period. I have done this before, and no inspection was required or requested.

Regarding the cost: You can do much better price wise. Also, you can purchase it from ANY Toyota dealer, it does not have to be the selling dealer. You can call around on the telephone to all your local dealers (or any dealer where you are willing to perform the transaction in person) and ask for a quote.

I purchased a 2015 Tacoma last March. I purchased an 8-year, 125K mile (The longest one they offer) Platinum zero deductible warranty for about $1850. I doubt the price has increased much in one model year. Call some other Toyota dealers and tell them to give you a quote and beat the offer you already have.

That looks like a very good price. I bought a 16 Accord in Sept, I think I paid about $700. I'm close to buying a 16 Tacoma with the extended warranty. If I can get it for around $700, I'll buy it.

Did Toyota stop out of state sales of Toyota Extra Care? I bought mine thru the selling dealer. If I can get the same policy for less I'd cancel & buy at the lower price.

That might be your opinion but I have used the heck out of my extended warranties for appliances: washer, dryer, dishwasher, and fridge have all needed service calls. I purchased a 100,000 mile Toyota Platinum extended warranty for my truck for $850. I figure I will get at least that back out of it.

To each his own, but referring to those who purchase an extended warranty as "suckers" does not add value to the thread. I hope you feel better about yourself by putting other people down.
