So much butthurt here. Seriously. Too many bros hating on 3rd gen. For the 3rd gen haters I have some advice.. No insult or malicious intent. There's a good community here. Built around a good truck and a solid platform. If you want to damage that, keep trashing the newest member of the family. Family won't survive internal hate. The new gen is different. It is different due to tons of factors. Some Gov mandated, some technological advancements.
We're all here to better the platform, customize to suit our own needs, share ideas, etc. This guy started the thread to share ideas on increasing HP. The very foundation of American car culture. Stow your self righteous "my gen is best" attitude. We're here to progress our passion. To grow a culture. If you're hating, you're just an asshole.
All that said, hey, how can I get some more low end torque from this 3.5? Seriously it just wants to downshift and rev.

    Sure.
But lots of folks just trashing the new gen. No way to welcome a new brother.

I'm not actually deeply upset. It doesn't cost me sleep. Just I clicked this post for some ideas, and it was nothing good. Lots of trashing. It's baloney.
I was part of an Exploder forum when New Exploder came out on its unibody design. It was nothing but hate and discontent. Ruined a whole community. It's not needed here. The new gen is overall a good platform. And not all that different.

The majority of complainers are the 3rd gen owners (including myself), voicing a problem/weakness is not hating.

    AND i am the former owner of a 09 2.7, 13 4.0, 14 4.0 and 14 4runner.

In addition, in my opinion i think toyota dropped the ball putting the 3.5 in the tacoma. They should have put the dual vvti 4.0 in it and called it a day.

Uood. I feel ya. I have my unsatisfied complaints as well. But when a guy asks how to improve his 3rd gen and all the responses are negative noise, it's not good for the community.
I don't like the shifting. Or the tonneau. Or the back seat leg room. Or the way my seat won't raise or lower. Lots of things.
All that said. I love it.

Different brands, different priorities. I'd imagine only aftermarket will produce a supercharger. Then you have to decide if you want roots, screw, or centrifugal and all that fun stuff.

Maybe if I ever have issues pulling my prerunner behind the taco I'll get a s/c but that's just one more part to maintain or have fail when you're in the middle of the desert.

Thats because there isn't that much can be done unfortunately, other than forced induction which is getting into big money and major changes.

I agree, the shifting sucks...i don't have the cover but it looks like a mess. The legroom in the back is the same it has been so i can't complain there, but it is really lacking in comparison to the 4runner. And for the love of god why didn't they put the 4runner 8 way adjustable seat base in it??

But i still like it, i get compliments all the time. But it could be much better.

I feel like a lot of people are coming from new-ish trucks and they just rip on it. I'm coming from a max option, 2001, leather, sunroof, max tech (at its time) Explorer SportTrac. It rode like a horse carriage. The multiple timing chains rattled over 2k rpm, and it's lifetime best mileage ever was on the downhill side of the continental divide. (19mpg). This new 2016 OR is like riding a magic carpet.
There's always something that can be done. It just requires innovation, which some industrious lad will crank out shortly. When injectors became en vogue all the old carb tuners called it the end of the hotrod. It obviously just took a shift in thinking and some development. This truck is hardly such a leap in tech. But it will come. And that's what this thread was made to capture.

No hating, just realistic honest responses and expectations.

If you go to the Colorado forum, everyone is much more pleased because they took a shitbox and made a much better truck. No question about it. As for the tacoma, the new version being better overall is quite questionable among the community. Hence all the "hate"

Because no one ever could want a little extra go for towing or power for off roading, right?

On a side note, OP has a great username.

Fair enough Woodex. But I don't think Toyota really let us down. We're just holding a 3rd gen that can be even more improved upon.

I think as far as marketing goes and making a profit they made good decisions. It looks great and will sell like hotcakes. Good moove from a buisness standpoint so cant fault them there. From an enthusiast point of view, there were a couple letdowns.

turbocharger might be able to help, however not sure how much boost the engine would be able to take.

That's quite a rant across several posts for not being upset.

Supposedly a TRD intake and a TRD exhaust will be coming out at some point. I'll definitely be getting those, even if the only thing they improve is the sound.

I just test drove the 3rd gen taco this morning...wow what a dog it is off the line. I have a 2.4 4 cylinder taco and it feels THE SAME up to about 20-30mph. You really have to rev it. When you mash the pedal the power comes in like the old school honda vtec. I guess it really is a car engine.

I could see using that little extra power for towing. How is the extra gain in hp or torque going to help when off roading? Especially when you are talking about an increase in about 15 ftlbs at over 4600 rpm. You will probably damage your truck badly. 4lo is the way to do that and you can only go so fast.

You are also coming from a 1st gen which is the lightest out of all of them. Not to mention you got a 5 lug...was the 3rd gen 4wd and did you try ECT?

If I turn off my traction control I can light up my 265/70s so I don't know what your talking about with it being slow it's not a race car or anything by any means but I keep up with my step dads 2015 v8 Titan I don't win but it's not like he pulls away and I'm standing still but I wouldn't sell my new Tacoma for anything
