Synthetics are awesome in areas that do not get change frequently- like x-case, diffs, and trannys. Have that peace of mind. Also they can reduce friction loss through a drive line. I have picked up measurable difference by swapping out fluids on some of my vehicles. So the $100 feels a bit stiff-especially to a do it self-er like me but hopefully knowing you got a little bit better product helps?

that's about right. it seems steep, but if you break it down......

    Oil- $45
    new plug washer/seal- $5
probably charged you a "shop fees" charge, to cover stuff like towels, degreaser, etc - $10
labor for the hour (round up) that it took at $40/hour minimum.

    Total before tax $100

I got 12 qts of Mobil syn for $98 - did diff, T case and trans and had plenty left. If U R at all handy there's not much to it and a lot of $$$ in you pocket instead of theirs.

The link you provided shows 75W140 grade oil? That's a very advanced grade of oil, and allows your diff to run hotter without the oil breaking down, useful if you like to do burnouts :D or see a lot of wheelspin off road (mudding, etc.).

I asked my mobil1 oil change place what they would charge to do the diffs/t-case (it's winter and shitty here) They quoted $100per ($300 for all 3)

I went and got mobil1 synthetic ($60 for 6 quarts) and did it. That was a little too rich for my blood.

I dump it at work but that won't help you. I used to dump it a the town dump pronounced Recycling Center. Some Mechanic/gas stations use to take it. Some places with a lot of equipment use recycled oil to heat their garages - that's another spot to dump - you just have to ask around. Can't help you with the time - I do it on a weekend when the sun is shinning and the temp is reasonable. At one time I had Jilly Lube doing my oil changes because it was cheap but then I found out it wasn't good - they told me I didn't have zerks or when I pointed them out they yes'd me but when I did them myself water came out so the proof is in the pudding - they didn't do them.
