Hey guys, new here. Got a weird problem. I have a 2015 tacoma, work model. Use it alot doing street work so I sit parked with hazards on alot. Lately I've been draining my battery bad after 4 hours running hazzards, so I bought some LED bulbs for less power usage.

I just swapped them in this morning and they worm great, until I switched on my running and head lights. Heard a pop under the dash, my 10 amp tail fuse blew out. Not sure why, so I popped back in a new one, blew right away.

I haven't done anything else to this truck except swapped in those new turn signal bulbs. Why would it keep blowing my running light circuit?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

I had the same thing happen to my 2009 when I put LEDs in the DTRL up front. The particular LEDs I bought had 4 wires on the socket, but my truck only has 2 wires going to the receiving socket. With a little investigation I found that the two inside wires on the bulb are connected to the two on the outer side, and they are causing a short when plugged in. I solved this by simply bending the two inside wires back to the other side so they would not make contact when plugged back in. This worked and no more fuses blown. I don't have any photos right now to explain this, so if it's not clear, I can try to take some tonight and post them up.

Looking over my bulbs again, seems like the front sockets are CK type, and my bulbs are standard. I have one leg of the bulb grounded at the socket because the bulbs are not the CK type plug, "grounds on the same side" that's a bummer... guess I need to bend or cut off a pin so I don't have running lights or turn signal. Sigh!

Does the CK type have 3 wires going to it or just 2? My socket only has two, so the LEDS work both as DTRL and turn signals, even after I bent the leads back.

I have 4 leads. I will attach a picture... seems like the '15 tacoma uses CK style sockets, and the bulb i got was standard. Explains the short and popping of the fuse.

Nice diagram. That should help out a lot of TW folks.

Sounds like I got the bulbs you needed, and you got the bulbs I needed.

To fix hyper-blinking, are you installing resistors or modifying the blinker module?

Nah, I don't really care about the hyper blinking. I just need to make sure my hazzards can run for a few hours without draining my battery and leaving me stranded for the 4th time.

The hyper blinking on happens with turn signals. Not hazzards. Don't know why that is, lol!

And yes, it does sound like we both swapped bulbs. Ha!

You're right. I just tried my hazzards and they blink slowly. I think I'll skip the resistor mods. The fast blinking turn signals seem to be getting people's attention.

The main reason I went with LED DTRL is because the lens in my last headlights melted. Toyota replaced them for free, but I don't want to burn them up again.

If your LED bulbs have tabs like the ones in the picture, you can just bend two of the wires over the tab to effectively convert the bulb from standard to CK, at least for use the way the tacoma is wired. You won't be able to use both levels of the light separately, but the truck isn't wired for that either.

If you bend the "dim" wire over the tab to be next to the "bright" power, then bend the ground on that face of the tab over so both grounds are on the face opposite the power lines, it'll work as a bright bulb in the ck socket; just get the polarity right and you're good to go.
